Autumn leaves cascade
Horse chestnuts thunder down
The conker season begins,

trees bowing politley
freely sheding there quilted patches
Of gold and brown and amber.

free bedding for the underworld
of red and grey squirrels,
rabbits.field mice,and beetles,
love is not forgotten......

Technically, jimbo, it isn't. Andrew McGeever could lay claim to it as the originator.

My loneliness calls
Wolves, crying through frozen trees,
Encourage me home.

I liked it a lot, too, Eric 8) . Very visual and aural at the same time. Chilling desolation with warmth in the final line.

Thanks Lizzy, although I didn't mean to convey a sense of warmth at the last line. I can see how it can be read that way though. With that line I wanted to challenge our usual perception, or idea, of 'home.' You are right, home is usually considered as a place of warmth, or even safety. But here the subject answers the call of his/her loneliness. The call emminating from wolves. Creatures that, for me anyway, always have a very real air of loneliness about them, even though they are a very successful pack animal. I suppose it probably comes from the oft used image of a lone wolf, standing on the peak of a hill, howling at the full moon. In answering the call, the subject is encouraged home, which is a frozen, almost desolate landscape. Home is not always a welcoming place. And not always a place one is happy to return to. Thanks for the comment L.

Ah. I see it now. You are the wolf. Interestingly, I would still see it as a return to warmth, of that of the pack.

Interesting your intention vs. my interpretation. You're right of course on the image of the lone wolf and especially if you feel like one, your writing would naturally come with that perspective.
