) Bee, sometimes the Beast is not so well disguised and goes around in full classic outfit including the sulphuric perfume of some of your posts.
Tchoco- I would leave the angel songs to the angels-as for the beast-he creeps in everywhere-even in yours he is breathing heavily sometimes.

Tom ~
I'm not sure on which of these two threads you posted your disapproval/disagreement with my way of handling the dispute, that ensued as a 'result' of my numerous, heavy, and 'emotional' postings regarding Hurricane Katrina and its numerous victims. Hurricane Katrina and its numerous victims are a heavy matter.
In your focusing on my commentary, it seems natural to conclude that [by omission] you condone, or don't find problematical, the commentary of others. As you know, that's your choice ~ however, while you are feeling disappointed in me, I am feeling equally disappointed in you.
Do not mistake my saying that as meaning that I would expect that, if you're going to bother commenting after such a long absence here, that you should pledge support 'of me', as some are doing of others, in this matter.
I will continue on this, later, as well. I have a meeting.

To Joe, Greg, and anyone else who may know Squidgy ~
As a result of the notice I posted on the Gulf Coast News site [asking if anyone knows of Squidgy's whereabouts], with my contact number, I received a phone message from Rick [I'll give you his last name] in Oakland, California. He said that he used to work with "Jo" and is wondering about her, concerning Katrina, and wondering if I [we] have any information; or can pass along his good wishes, and, if so, to tell her that Rick from the San Francisco Chronicle called. He gave me his phone number, which I'll give you, as well, if you'll contact me. He said he hopes all is well.

Hi Greg-thank you, impressive work!
As it was my post above your request for curtesy, I would respond.
Is hard to have any manners left, when one is smothered and suffocated by streams of meaningless words about compassion, which has no compassion to ones who have to endure it.
Sorry Greg, sometimes life could be tough!

Lizzy -
what's in a disappointment? What
is a disappointment? "A failure to satisfy the hope, desire, or expectation of someone", or: the action doesn't meet the expectations.
So you are disappointed by the way I acted. I'd regret that. But it proves that your expectations had been high-strung. I'm honoured by that.
You are perfectly right: There have been others than you who didn't handle the situation that arose in this thread in a way I could approve of. Just to give an example I could mention bee's remark about you wasting the tax payers' money when reading and posting to this forum while at work. (Aside: Indeed, bee, this was below the belt, and you know that.)
But I have said it elsewhere, and more than once: the bee must sting, and she always does when someone criticises
her bee-lovèd president. Most of those who don't feel as obliged to GWB as bee have been victims of her "stings". You have, Linda has, you know that I have. So I couldn't be disappointed by her getting into nasty remarks. (Aside again: But, indeed, bee, this never led to lasting enmity, or did it?)
You will have recognized, Elizabeth, that I didn't join the club of those who accuse you of "flooding the forum". This is simply because I don't think you do. Everyone will post as much, and in such style, as befits her or his personality. (Besides, I always agreed with what one of the great Marxes - Julius Henry, called 'Groucho' - once said: "I don't care to belong to a club that accepts people like me as members.")
Some people may feel that you post too much, or in a too emotional style, or essentially the same thing too often. I don't share any of these positions, but I make allowance for their stance.
Rudyard Kipling, who
was a racist, though not of the ranting and raving and raging kind - he cared for those non-British souls, and he loved them, I think, but "a philo-Semite is an anti-Semite who happens to love the Jews" -, this Kipling wrote in a poem called "If":
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;
From you, as one of the most experienced posters on this forum, I should have expected to "keep your head". Indeed, I was disappointed that you didn't. That's why I criticised you rather than someone else.
I could come back to details, but I believe that you yourself will be able to see them without me pointing at "the mote".
One final remark, as I'm typing this into my laptop computer while on a train that's already approaching it's (and my) destination:
Of course you didn't expect me to take to your side in this rather runaway discussion. You know that I never took anybody's side, but rather stood my own ground, and more often than not I was pleased to find out that others were on the same side of the matter, though for their own reasons I respected. You and I found ourselves on the same side of many issues, and I believe that this will happen over and over again. I just didn't approve of some remarks you made.
Cheers
tom
PS: My absence was due to having been "burnt out from exhaustion", then I restored my power on a long vacation. Right now I'm busy preparing something - but this will be published in due time. After that - it is already visible on the horizon - I'll come back to
flood the forum, as I sadly had to find out that I'm down to rank 12 in ~greg's modified top ten listing...

Joe, Greg, and anyone else ~
Regarding Squidgy, I phoned Rick last night, left a message on his voice mail regarding our lack of any information, and asked that we stay in touch with each other to share any information either of us may get.
I just saw an (888) 544-5475 hotline number on TV, set up for Missing People from Hurricane Katrina. I'm currently on "Hold," which may go on for awhile, but I'll find out how it works; whether they have any info on Squidgy, or whether we are to just keep checking; or leave a contact number. I'll let you know the results.
I've been calling her home number every day, just on the off-chance that service might be restored, and she might be there. Likewise, with the other listed X I haven't made contact with. Stupid, in a way, to keep trying; but, there just aren't many options available from where I sit.
Okay, the number is for the Missing and Exploited Children, but they are taking information on others and putting it in a database, in case matches are made. So, she has not shown up in their system, yet. Still, he was able to locate [within the next 30 seconds] where I had entered her on [including nickname of Squidgy] the Gulf Coast News website.
The man I spoke with was very helpful, and continued, telling me also need to enter her into the
http://www.redcross.org system, with as much info as I can give [can one of you give me her approximate DOB? I 'put' her at approximately 40-45, so he put 45 ~ I already have her street address from the white pages site] and to check there, periodically, as well.
His final [excellent] advice was that I go to yahoo.com and enter her name into their PeopleFinder search engine because that scans ALL of the various websites that have existed before or been created since the hurricane, for this purpose, including that of Red Cross.
So, I'm going to the Red Cross and Yahoo sites next.

Dear Tom ~
I'll 'take it from the top,' as I'm able. Today is a particularly busy day, due to my having to leave early; as well as a heavier workload, due to an outside appointment and a meeting here, yesterday.
The other day [when the comment regarding my being at work was made] was an especially slow day. My workload varies from day to day. Still, I had time to complete my own work, and help someone else with theirs, as another person was out of work. The following day, I was scarce around these parts, as I had my own, heavier workload, but still helped the person who had been out, catch up with theirs, from the day prior.
I've taken to invisibilizing myself here, as it serves no particular purpose; but does provide 'ammunition' for more, inaccurate accusations. Simply minimizing the site leaves a person showing as being here, when they're actually not. I'm also signing out from time to time, so one of the "Hidden"s won't necessarily even be me. Now, I can minimize in peace. It's a bit of a pain to sign out and back in, too, but oh, well. The reality is that I'm a very committed worker, whom my supervisor can rely on for getting the job done, and doing it well. I don't appreciate comments to the contrary, but they're not as 'damaging' as some of the others.
The 'lowness' of the comment you're referring to was not as concerning to me as several others. At this point, she's expressed herself regarding me in two jobs, when I would never seek her as an employer to begin with. Interviews are two-way propositions, and 'both' sides make decisions on the outcome. I look at that comment from that perspective, and consider it in the same, GWB vein that you've already cited.
I'll return later to say more on the other issues.
~ Lizzy
WORD OF CAUTION
Posted: Fri Sep 09, 2005 7:54 pm
by lizzytysh
I originally posted this in the wrong thread, so have brought it here, as well:
A public-service message was given on NPR regarding people making contributions via the Internet. The approximate number of 1,200 'helping organization' sites has ballooned to approximately 2,300 since Katrina. Many of these additional ones are apparently fraudulent, with individuals exploiting the situation for personal gain. Some are 'appearing' to be Red Cross, when they're actually not. A reliable connection for Red Cross is simply
http://www.redcross.org.
Sure isn't the first time for that, since gas stations, hotels, and retail stores have also done the same in the past, with some of it having happened with Katrina. However, they are urging that you contribute only to those you already KNOW to be legitimate, and even mailing your contribution, or contacting them by phone to be certain of what their e-mail address actually is.
So 'many' go under the guise of something else, with pleas and verbiage that incline people to contribute, and the money simply goes into someone's pocket, and no further.
*************************************************************
These do not appear to be solutions. Squidgy is not listed [proper name, of course] on the Red Cross site ~ and it requires too much information that I simply don't have, and you're unlikely to, as well, to enter her. It won't accept my entry, based on lack of required info.
I can't find a People Search mode when I go to my Yahoo page ~ when I Googled "Yahoo People Search," I was able to get to a site for that -- BUT, it appears to search for name, address, phone number, DOBs, etc. and comes up with further links that appear to be ones you probably have to pay to access......and the DOB is the only thing that might be helpful right now. Even so, I lack other required info for the Red Cross site, anyway. No mention is made of Hurricane Katrina, which I somehow thought might be.
Perhaps, one of you two [both being way more computer savvy than I am] could attempt going there, and seeing if you could find a way to accomplish what the man on the phone said would be done.

Bee, I never have any pretention of being an angel, first, second, I do not have any pretention to be perfect, or better than anybody. I did my share of mistakes, here but I have the common sense to admit it. Not that it is an expectation that others admit anything or that I want them to be perfect. I'm not that fool. Although I won't take charges for what is not mine. For example, if the beast is breathing heavily in some of my post, well, this is its behaviour, after all.
Tom (d.stiller) I am under the impression of being accused of a crime I did not do. Again. (I still don't know if your gift to have me look bad is intentional or not, but with the time passing...) Worst, I have the impression that you pushed me to crocodiles in order to save your skin. Are you a coward or what? Do you really need to run the spot on an "error" of my part (as your false comments "disguised" my posts) to make you looks good? That would be petit, Tom (d.stiller). Where do you see "the club" you are talking about, claiming you are not a member of, please? (This is not a true question, in case you did not already understood.) There is not club. There is people, just like you, that are standing alone with their own opinion, just like you, and who express it, just like you do. If you can do it without it being a crime, I guess that it stands for everybody else. It appears that through times, many had the same opinion, which is normal because if you care for the reality you would have to recognize the phenomenon of flooding as as real as the phenomenon of trolling - in Internet. If you was not informed about this reality now you are. You could use the word and have fun with it. How great it is, don't you think so? If you read my previous posts to the end, you did remark, certainly, what I think about this on a leisure site and forum. Not an offense as it would be on a serious forum, because we are there to have fun, that's all, whit the different personnality we have, but, this is not the end of the world either if once in a while, somedody let goes a cry of impatience. Although, I feel that an altercation between to persons should remain "private" in my mind, in any case, it is certainly not an excuse for others to jump in the thread in gang against a person out of... I don't know what, exactly, and don't want to know, like wild animals. As I won't be there, please, don't answer me, it would be more sport from your part as I could not be there to answer you, and people who are absent and silent are considered to agreeing with what was said. This may not be the case. Therefore I thank you in advance for your respect.
Change of subject.
I read an article today about the American way of life plus plus plus of arab petrol kings. If it would have be the US, everydoby would have yelled. But there is a strange silence about their abuse of those arab petrol kings.
I have not links for now. Too bad.

Tchoco- I know you don't. My saying about the angel songs was, that we are no angels, nobody is, and you don't pretend to be better or anything for that matter. All is quite kool in that respect. You made me laugh about the behavior of the beast-that indeed is it's nature, I c'n feel it too sometimes.
Have you seen that Japanese movie-Grudge? Scary stuff, my heir stood up and all my spine went numb and cold, was watching it last night, that's how de beast works, scares ones self shitless.
Take care Tchoco!
