Dear Linda,

Your signature, which I know you understand perfectly and know exactly what it means, makes perfect sense to me :) .....even in its rough translation. You will, of course, continue to use it, I trust. :D!

All good things,
Lizzytysh

Bad news Lizzy. They're having to recount your vote. How in the world did you manage to get that "hanging chad" on a computerized vote? :)

Good golly  ~ well, you know I'm not computer savvy, so if there's a way for it to be done, guess what...... 8)
D'ya suppose it won't count at all, go to the other contender, or be counted twice? Or, maybe one of each, half a chad on one, and half on the other . Did you actually cast a vote or just make your comments?

Hi Lizzy,
Yes, I voted quite some time ago. I got a laugh out of Kush's teasing you about having to wait for the Florida vote. Then when you said you had voted and did a good job, I had to tease you a little more. Bob

Thanks, Kush, for supplying the biographical details on La Rochefoucauld. I'm not sure that after all these years I could have done so well myself.

Andrew, I accept that the primary meaning for 'folie' that you would find in a basic French dictionary is indeed 'madness'. However, if you consult a larger volume, you will find 'folly' given as a secondary meaning. It is not appropriate to go into too much detail here, but if you are interested I can give you several phrases in current usage where the word 'folie' would not be translated into English by the word 'madness'. Just out of interest, how would you translate 'Folies Bergeres' into English?

I saw the quote printed on a postcard in a bookshop on a recent visit to France, and the paradox was what first appealed to me. I later came to see that it could be interpreted as meaning that it's ok to do something 'daft' occasionally - along the lines of 'show me a person who has never made a mistake and I will show you a person who has never made anything'.

I hope this answers your question. I had been considering abandoning it as a signature on the grounds that it was pretentious of me to use a language that was not my own, whatever my level of competence in that language may be, but now I'm inclined to hang on to it out of sheer bloody mindedness.

The reason I do not use my own name as a signature is so as to avoid confusion, as there are already others on the board with the same name.

First impressions of the track list...
no Master Song!!
no "Joan of Arc"!!
This moan will always take place when a major retrospective of a songwriter's career is compiled. Yet this one covers the defining moments in Leonard's work over the last 35 years. Who chose the tracks, Leonard or Sony? And why did Leonard not write the liner notes?
Andrew.

Not Worthed CD

Post by Juang Siahaan »

Hey all,

What advantage of the "Essential LC" next release, only just remastering without a new material but the technology now have SACD or DVD-A,
I think Ten New Song release in this format but..........like any artist have this "legacy" compilation you just add a box of chocolates for the label, from now I said this CD not worthed. The poor stay poor and the rich get greedy
