Hi Peter,

I think it seems likely that the first "beggar" reference ("Then I studied with this beggar...") is probably about Roshi; but the second "beggar" reference ("Just a filthy beggar guessing..."), while it could be about Roshi, could also be a reference to Leonard's perception of himself.
