Yeah, she and Arthur were on that space craft, and she just disappeared, no explanation or anything, she was just gone. It struck me as odd.
Damn good books, though.

And the rest of the Hitchhiker series didn't strike you as odd, Aisling?

I agree, they were very good books, but it's too long since I read (or re-read) them to pick up on particular details.

meaning of life

Three possible alternatives.

I. Has the meaning of life ever been truly defined? Whatever meaning we ascribe to life is an abstract notion attempting to satisfy the curiosity or demands of the mind to justify its own existence. If we give life a meaning expressed in language; then that meaning is ultimately meaningless for the agenda of life is far beyond the realm of abstract thought. The monkey pauses from peeling a banana and looks up to the stars. What meaning does he/she need? The stars are wondrous and the banana is delicious.

II. Desire! The universe is suffused with gravity and heat. These forces of attraction bring matter and energy together to create or procreate. Stars are born. Systems condense. Chemistry does its thing. Desire, lust and love replicate forms endlessly for no reason other than the ability to do so.

III. To preserve the moment until the next moment, until the next moment, until the next moment, until the next moment; until the moment of imminent failure of the body when the Eagle devours our awareness and our time on earth is done.

Another alternative:

The meaning of Life is to give meaning to Life. Not by discussing possible predetermined "meanings of Life", but by actively creating one's own life, one's own personality, mind and soul.

Tom, this is a most cogent purpose for the action in life.
As for predetermined meanings- how can this be if ultimately there is no meaning? Yes we justify our existence by the meaning we make. The activities by which we create. We are what we do not what we say.

Welcome to the forum, johnny7moons. May you feel at home with this crazy bunch of banana-ful losers.

I agree: the meaning of Life changes. I'd add: it is a different one for every one of us, and it changes with every crossroads we'll pass. (Reminds me of Robert Frost again: "Two roads diverged in the wood, and I / I took the one less travelled by / And that made all the difference")

Witty Owl - yes I concur: bunches!!! :P

Cheers
