In a book about cats I am reading the first line is

"Dogs have masters and cats have slaves"

Anyone who has a cat or dog can relate to that.

Also dog are ruled by the sun and cats the moon and men are ruled by the sun and women are ruled by the moon. So I think the affinity could be gender based.

Thank you SO much for that last bit of information, Paula. I didn't realize that, though I have owned cats virtually all of my life and have read many things on them. It puts much into perspective for me and I can see it everywhere. There are the women who don't like cats, and I thank G..d for the men who do.

That's alright, John, I'm not totally disillusioned. You came in just under the wire.....there remain many men who wouldn't consider a cat, no matter the circumstances or rationale. You don't even have to have a pet, after all....and fish would be fine, as well. Yes, the independence of cats is a true virtue, of which they remain rightfully proud. As a sign I love was posted in my vet's office, "Dogs come when they are called. Cats take a message and get back with you."

I am fortunately blessed to share my home with what must be the two most incompetent cats in Gloucester, but I still dare not lure birds into the garden by offering food. This poses a dilemma for me, as I love to watch and listen to those birds that pass through in the natural course of things, and am seriously concerned about their falling numbers, but I could not part from my cats.

Paula,

your comments about the sun and moon reminds me of the best selling book "Men are from Mars, women are from Venus". I must put that on my list to read sometime.

Yes, I have same luring dilemma as you, Linmag....inviting them to their death just doesn't seem quite kosher.

How can you say such athing - every man knows women are ruled by the moon and men are ruled by women (Waits for total approbation)

Lizzy

I just come in under the wire? Having had a look in the mirror this evening I have to say it must be a very high wire (I'm assuming that I'm crawling to you baby, I get down on my knees and I'll howl to your beauty like a dog (or should that be cat?) on heat)

Linmag

I didn't realise you were in Gloucester (probably cos I'm thick) I've been communicating with Altinkum and trying to arrange a meeting of LC fans in Cardiff - English fans are welcome too (as long as Glamorgan haven't lost that day)

Margaret

I prefer the book "Why Men Can Only Do One Thing At A Time...and Women Never Stop Talking" It was bought for me by a young lady I was training to do my job (Sadly I fancied her friend, but thems the breaks)

John It seems to me you need a copy of the fridge magnet a friend gave my husband recently, proclaiming that "Real men admit they love cats". He proudly displays it on the door of the freezer in the utility room (where only the family and the cats will ever see it :) ).

If a few more of us joined the meet-up site, we might be able to organise a reasonable get-together. I was hoping there would be someone else in Gloucester, but no luck so far. (My respected other half being obstinately of the conviction that Leonard Cohen only sings music to slit your wrists by :? )

Surely Glamorgan don't lose often with that great British Lions player, Robert Croft, on the team  As an ex-pat yorkshirewoman, I have a split personality during the cricket season, and with humble apologies to all members from non cricket-playing nations I will now shut up on that subject.

A yorkshire woman? My granddad was from barnsley - maybe we can watch the creeket and talk about Close, Truman, Boycott and so many other great yorkshireman - Crofty is the best offy in the land but, alas, he plays for the wrong county (If only Maynard had stayed oop north & lured Robert after him Glammy could have had at least 2 England regulars, plus Simon, when fit)

Did someone mention cats???

I've just counted the number of cats in our lounge

and the total is................. 74

sorry, I tell a lie...73
Charlie just walked out :)

According to Linda's husband's friend's fridge magnet that must make me a real man.
I rest my case

Aaaah Barnsley! I have spent many hours in Barnsley bus station. For reasons I was never able to fathom, the express motorway bus service from Leeds to Sheffield always used to come off the motorway at Barnsley, and spend about 20 minutes in the bus station, during which time no-one ever got on or off the bus. I have long suspected a pact between the bus company and the Barnsley Tourist Board, who clearly wanted to lure people into Barnsley, but I could never see what was in it for the bus company.

Pete I can't let that pass. 74 cats are you on some sort of scam with the lottery and pretending you are breeding guinea pigs for the Peruvian market.

JTS - Your comment on women are ruled by the moon and men by women seems pretty accurate to me and long may it remain so.

It would be quite nice to arrange a meet up for all at some stage. What about a 70's Butlins weekend somewhere
