In any case, that was a very strange "bio" [brief or not], seemingly written by another one of those who replies, "Who is Leonard Cohen!?!" A quick ~ and I do mean quick ~ Google/Wikipedia ~ search seems to have given him something to fill up the space, but that's about it.
My choice for presenting Leonard the award I believe would be Joan Baez... or Bob Dylan [some good humour could come out of their exchange

Yes, and finally we will have photos and video footage of Cohen and Dylan together. The Rock Hall doesn't like Joan Baez for some strange reason. Hank Williams, Lead Belly, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash are all in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame though.

Actually, thinking back on a personal-historical basis, Judy Collins seems the PERFECT choice

While it seems the membership that elects nominees to the RRHOF is a military secret, the gist of the membership seems to be J. Wenner/Rolling Stone staffers and ex-staffers, Sony/Columbia people, and WEA members (Warner Bros., Electra, Atlantic, Rhino, etc.). I do not know if Yankovic knows the names of the 500 electors - but my assumption is that Leonard will make it.
Regardless of the politics involved, the recognition would extend Leonard's writings (both song & prose) to future generations. Sometimes a lack of recognition can be fatal (Re: Richard Brautigan's suicide).
My feeling is that Leonard does not "need" to be elected; the recognition would enhance his work. The value of his work will have us "hearing from him, long after he's gone" - the value of his work will continue after the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame or the Songwriters Hall Of Fame are distant memories. Leonard would write his heart out because it is his life's work. Praise and Hall of Fame positions are only 'gravy'.

Though Leonard is far beyond suicide risk, so absolutely true on the rest, Kokenpere.

Hi Lizzy -
I did not mean to imply that Leonard was suicidal. Unfortunately, Richard Brautigan had some other issues going on. One was his "loss" of popularity/name recognition after his peak in the late 60's and early 70's. Much like an anorexic who always "sees" fat in the mirror, Richard saw obscurity after fame as failure.
Thanks to Roshi, Anjani, and Leonard's family and friends, that type of depression doesn't seem to be on Leonard's horizon.
Thank you for your kind words.

Hi Kokenpere ~
I did not mean to imply that Leonard was suicidal.
I knew you knew that; I just tried to figure a way to separate that out to say that I agreed with how what you said can be true, yet still make it clear that I wasn't interpreting it as meaning Leonard. I tried, but didn't
quite get there. Yes, Leonard managed to navigate those rocky waters through a combination of people, and I'd say his own inner strength, as well.

Well Dick, although I agree with you, I also couldn't help noticing your new avatar! Is it someone making a snow angel? Did you take the picture? Love it.

Thanks for noticing Blonde Madonna
Just a public domain file photo ---- there was also a bikini girl snow angel -- but I used discretion
Getting it small enough took several tries, but Linda helped me!

Where does Madonna fit in to Rock and Roll?
Beastie Boys would also be the first hardcore punk band inducted, that's the reason I'd want to see them in.
Genesis, or Peter Gabriel for that matter, still not even considered.

When Genesis was asked last year what they think is the reason that they are not in the Rock Hall, they said it was because they don't have any friends. That's what it all boils down to.
Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel are also qualified now to be inducted into the Rock Hall as solo artists.

Rock Hall 2008 Nominees Announced: Lamest List Yet
Fred Mills
September 28, 2007
So much for Punk, Prog and Psych: with today’s announcement of nominees for the 2008 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame it becomes clear we’ve reached a tipping point from which a permanent downhill slide in quality seems all but inevitable. The nominees are: Afrika Bambaataa, Beastie Boys, Chic, Leonard Cohen, The Dave Clark Five, Madonna, John Mellencamp, Donna Summer and The Ventures. True, most of these are deserving musicians even though several could hardly be said to be rock artists. And the old who-they-snubbed-this-year argument has played out each year without fail, so it’s almost pointless to argue; the list is what it is, so to speak. And fookin’ hooray for someone finally realizing that Leonard Cohen deserves to be enshrined—hell, he deserves a wing at the Hall all to himself. But we’re just sayin’… is the eventual inclusion of Herman’s Hermits, or Journey, or Silver Convention, or My Chemical Romance now a foregone conclusion? Why not Tiny Tim while we’re at it? Or Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds?!? Oh, and just seven letters, lest anyone forgets what REAL rock ‘n’ roll sounds like: S-T-O-O-G-E-S, who were famously snubbed last year while children-of-Stooges R.E.M. and Patti Smith (well deserving, don’t get us wrong) were inducted.
