Just ordered Tarja Turunen's new album, Colours in the Dark, released in the UK this week:
I'm terribly out of date and wait to hear to new albums until I have them physically in my hand. So listening to last year's live album, Act 1:

Vassar Clements playing his incomparable fiddle. Blues cd featuring, among others, Charlie Musselwhite and Maria Muldaur. Also trying to get ahold of the Hillbilly Jazz cd.

Hi Squidgy - will check out Vassar Clements. His is a new name for me but I recognize Charlie Musselwhite and Maria Muldaur and that is good enough.

i've been to a concert of Mariza, last week, and her voice, her music, her everything, is carved very sharply in my memory ;
i have listened to her latest cd "fado tradicional" eveyday, since thursday.
this (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxDkSdIxuD0) is a registration of a concert in lisboa, but the roeselare (belgium) concert last week, was as breath-taking as it could be, even if the audience was not so warm, as it could have been.
for those of you in belgrade (12/12) or budapest (13/12) : if you can go to a concert of her, you will be a very happy person, after having heard and seen this wonderfull artist.

this is a christmas album
The Once
Last week I went to the Once Christmas concert. I'm not a big lover of Christmas concerts but this one was beautiful. The joy that the Once feel in singing and performing is palpable; it was certainly a joy for me to be part of such a gathering. They performed a wonderful version of I Heard the Bells On Christmas Day. I listened to it with new ears when they described the despair of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow when he penned the words of the poem. But coming from that despair there was still hope. This was a wonderful segue into a powerful version of Anthem.

The Once also do an outstanding cover of Coming Back To You.

Bobby McFerrin ...always !!
I've been a fan of this guy ever since seeing him in Oakland many years ago. A genius ! Orgasmic prayer! Jazz/classical/sufi whirling dervish/gregorian chant meets Ella Fitzgerald singin' scat! There's just nobody like him!!

Here's a song called '

The Cathedrals gospel quartet. The bass vocalist (if you like that kind of thing

) - George Younce - is one of the greats...
