Not sure it'll catch all the variables, but I guess it's worth a try

.
I'm just hoping my friends in the Keys are leaving. They come in varying attitudes and styles. Whichever they choose, I hope they stay safe.

Hmmm. Well, that's news for us here. The computer model that they're showing on CNN now, shows Florida divided into 3 'quadrant'-style zones [High/Medium/Low], coming from the southwest and dividing Florida into 3 parts that are
basically 'horizontal,' for a predicted, direct hit by Wilma. South Florida is in High, of course; but, I was surprized to see us in the Medium zone

. Not that I really expect that occur

, because I don't; however, it
is an interesting thought. Looks like we'll, at least, have a rainy-blowy weekend, for sure.
Possibly loss of electric, at some point over the weekend
[did I just hear a collective sigh?]
One of the officials being interviewed said it's going to take the Yucatan Peninsula [Cancun, Cozumel, etc.] years to recover from this, due to the particulars of the area, and the pummeling it's already taking and will continue to. The eye is much larger than it was, which makes for higher and more sustained wind speeds.
Some are apparently [no surprize because some are so bullheaded down there] planning to remain in Key West. They interviewed the mayor, and he is. This is the time of year for Fantasy Fest and the Goombay celebration, a Caribbean-flavored street festival; and they lose $5 million dollars a day in K.W. every weekend day that they're shut down. Fantasy Fest is still on the schedule for 10/25 - 10/30 [2 days lopped off] and Goombay moved back until 11/04 & 11/05. If they get a direct hit, these could be cancelled or severely compromised, and will be a major loss of revenue for the city. Fantasy Fest is one of their largest, annual events. Good Luck ~ Key West! I wish you were all safely out of there ~ but no surprize on that.

It looks like Wilma is going to stall over the Yucatan, and beat her up for many hours, as she's moving, northwest at only 5 mph. Some people in that area are calling on cellphones begging someone to come get them, but no one can do anything to help them.
Due to the slow, forward speed, she's not expected to hit Florida now, until early next week. Even then, she may pass through the Florida straights, so it won't be as direct, but I think that's unlikely. They're saying her power will lessen when she gets away from the Yucatan. I'm not sure how that's expected, as she'll be back out into the warmer waters of the Gulf. We'll see.

At least the predictions are that Wilma will be a Category 1 or 2, by the time it hits Florida, sometime into next week. Not that this is
that much of a reprieve, but a
whole lot better than a Category 3, 4, or 5! I hope nothing happens with the steering currents to let her head north to the New Orleans/Mississippi area.
