My friend and I just booked a place to stay--now we have a dream landscape (seascape?) for the long dark winter...

Can anyone recommend a good place to stay please?
I'm travelling alone so would like to be as near to the port/cafes, etc. as possible. Also fairly cheap!
Thanks in advance.

I don't know how things are these days, but long ago I used to recommend the Argo, provided you insist on a front-room. It is cheap. The four front bedrooms (two on two floors) have balconies where you can have breakfast gazing out at the boats ... which is about as romantic as it gets.
The Argo is on the waterfront, where the Flying Dolphins dock. The disadvantage is that the Argo is right above the cafes, so isn't for those who want a quiet night in, or to get to sleep early.
Recently renovated is the Sophia, on the waterfront at the corner of Miaoulis, which used to be the cheapest and the worst on the island (and is where Axel and Marianne first stayed) but presumably is now much improved. Like the Argo, it is on the waterfront (central), so the view comes at the price of noise.
The hotels in the map below are the more expensive ones. Bratsera, converted from an old sponge factory, is the finest hotel on the island (and the most expensive): very tasteful.
One of the more expensive but good hotels not shown on the map is the Miranda, up Miaoulis, run by my oldest friend on the island. She has an art gallery in the basement worth visiting, even if you are not interested in buying.
Friends visiting me recently have stayed at the mid-price-range Angelica, up from the Miranda, and liked it. There they have an annexe, consisting of two twin (or double? - better check) rooms and a kitchenette ... which might suit Cohenites.
But in June the flood of summer tourists won't have started yet, so it is safe to just turn up and look around.

Maybe this is of some interest to you for the 2009 meeting on Hydra.
I do rent out my house in Kamini /sleeps 4/ at a very reasonable price.
Here is the link

at the moment there is still availability

Hey, what are the general dates that people going in June are planning to arrive/depart? I'm thinking about looking at booking flights to Athens from London while airlines are still offering deals, but it would be nice to know around which dates some of you are planning to arrive. Jarkko's list of people says somewhere that more people are spending time before 12-14 June than staying after.
Lemme know here on this page??

We are arriving 8th June for 7 days. Flights booked but still waiting for replies to our enquiries about accommodation.
Thank you to Sophia for her link and to Hydriot for the map. I have searched for another street map that showed the position of more accommodation, but up to now I haven't been able to find one to judge where places are situated.

Hi Laura,
sorry for delay in replying - still don't understand forums. The A to your Q is simple, we stayed on Hydra in 2008 in a rather special property, loved the house and the island in equal measures and decided to return in 2009. There you go.

No problem about finding the other cohenites, I'd say; if this meet up will be anything like the one from 2007 (which I hope), there will always be someone waiting in the Roloi bar (which is in the harbour, you can't miss it).
