Whilst we are on the subject of travel arrangements, has anyone looked at hotels in San Jose yet? I'm tempted by some quite attractive rates at the Fairmont, which has excellent reviews on Trip Advisor, but I have no idea whether it is within easy distance of the HP Pavilion.
Another little insurance policy of course, one that I can always cancel if needs be ..

This website shows the distance form each hotel to the Shark Tank.

Wendy, I (and I think a few others) have already booked rooms at the Hotel de Anza. It's on the same street as the HP Pavilion, only 3 blocks from it....it's also about 2 blocks in the other direction to San Pedro Square which is sort of in downtown SJ and has restaurants, bistros, and bars.....perfect for Forum people
I did check out the Fairmont and it looks very very nice. Guess several presidents (of the US) have stayed there...of course that could mean it's REALLLLLLY old. Here we go to the old game of "where would Leonard stay?". There aren't a lot of 5 star hotels in San Jose, but I think if you really want to take your chances...they may be at the Fairmont. I'll make do with the easy access...art deco...nice cozy bar....newly refurbrished hotel....walking distance to the venue....and possibly to meetups before and after. The Fairmont seemed to be a few blocks further away, but certainly nothing to worry about..possibly another 5 minutes in a cab, or less.
Hope this helps.

Hotel de Anza was the way I was going to go, but I just noticed it's non-smoking. There are plenty of hotels in the area, so I will wait to book because, first there is something I have to do tomorrow that takes higher priority.

Thanks for your input on hotels everyone. I am now holding flexible reservations at both the Fairmont and the Hotel de Anza. I think I rejected the de Anza originally as I couldn't see how to get a non-smoking room. Mary clarified that one for me! However, the reviews seemed mixed at best and it's not such good value as the Fairmont. The Fairmont on the other hand is 25 mins walk from the venue according to a very helpful e-mail from the concierge.
Anyway, I have months to decide, assuming the trip goes ahead of course!

PS I assume everyone will be staying at Caesar's the night before? I don't think I will like it at all (and Tony will positively hate it if he comes with me) but I feel like it must be done!

I agree re the Casear...the Mirage next door has much nicer rooms for the same price with a $50 breakfast buffet...
but although it is next door that could be 4 blocks away...no it really is next door. I first booked there (my favorite hotel is Mandalay Bay though LV isn't my scene we did just spend 2 nights there around xmas as we drove to Death Valley for a photography adventure for a week...)
I choose in the end to book Casear's as thats where the concert is and easier to meet people.
See you there!

Hi everyone,
I'm staying at Caesar's and the Hotel de Anza. I am SO excited and there's still Barcelona to look forward to before all this happens!
