This is great! The bench resolve, as well as the street. What is the new location like? Are there any trees? I'm trying to imagine 60 meters. Will need to convert it to get some sense of it. Good reasoning by the mayor.
Thanks for relaying this info, Jarkko!

Glad to hear that a compromise has been found.
Let's hope all goes well from now on and that no new objectors appear out of the shrubbery.
Hope to see a photo of the completed bench here - eventually!

It's a pity that this project got delayed over what seems a rather petty grievance, but had it stayed in the disputed location it may have caused some some further angst upon completion.
This way, Leonard's bench gets a peaceful spot with a still beautiful view. Thanks again for the updates and to all who are making it come to fruition.
I've never been to Greece but I hope to one day visit this spot that unites us.

Frauke is now on Hydra, enjoying the sunny quiet wintertime. Yesterday she met the mayor. He told Frauke that the bench will be ready in April. The builders are waiting for permission from the Historical Office in Athens. They need new documents because the location of the bench changed.

Fortunately, patience is a virtue we learned early on in this Forum.
It's great news to hear as we approach the new year.
Thanks, Jarkko.

I hope that it is complete by late June. If so, I'll make sure to take lots of pictures!

Today´s email from Lakis, our man on the island:
Well, there are no news about the bench. Poor George [the Mayor of Hydra] is working hard with the Greek bureaucracy. Now, we are waiting the final signature from the archeology team in Athens.
He says that it will take another month.
We will open a champagne bottle, then.

I think all of us would welcome an update on where things stand, or sit

with the bench tribute.
