I am so disappointed

Post by SteveKincade »

I am so disappointed, not with the tour or Mr. Cohen or any of that, but I just tried to get seats in the pre-booking for Toronto and I kept getting really bad seats at the back. So, I called and asked "what's up with this" The reply I got is they only release the back of the back, around row Y and back for the fans. If I use mt AMEX I could get to row R

All the good seats will be available on Sat. at 10 EST. Leave it to Ticket Master to mess with the great work everyone did to make sure Fans got in early and got the best seats. Well, I guess I will wait a few more days.

Steve -

I just replied in the other thread. I should add that a large part of presales is trying to overcome any bots etc. that scalpers use as well. Having multiple windows open (firefox, IE, Netscape) and trying each one simultaneously works for me. Being logged in under more than one ID helps as well.

There's no guarantee in life unfortunately, and a lot of presales are hit or miss. If you've got the option to travel, try the Kitchener show as well - you may have better luck there than T.O.

Which documentary was that, and when was it made? I haven't seen it. There is a rather good clip of Hydra and Leonard on You Tube - search for 'Leonard on Marianne'.

Which years were you on the island (the agora has moved inland now, to where the ice-factory used to be)? How about coming back for one of our meet-ups?

Whether you missed out or not depends on what venue you are looking for... Montreal presales are sold out I believe, and Toronto presales are going swiftly... good luck to you!!!! :)

Thank you regarding this being Excellent news for me! I've just checked and the charges have come through on my account... in USD, it's $444.01 ~ now for the confirmations by email and tickets! They're to be mailed in 8 days... or arrive in 8 days by mail [can't recall which]... but it's definitely one of those, "Not until I have them in my hands" ~ oh, ye, of little faith.

I'm shocked and chagrined by what's being said about the TORONTO tickets! That's unbelievable. Initially, I was considering Toronto... surely someone there has made a HUGE Mistake on how they were supposed to handle this and got it BACKWARDS  !?! I'd sure enough be calling and asking to speak with the top administrator there, to get absolute clarification on this... unless, being a Sony-named facility, it's a jealousy of Jarkko's high degree of success with his site on Leonard ;-) , to the extent that they closed their own discussion board for lack of participation and auto-connected everyone to here.

First, it's beyond wonderful Suemerlyn was able to live on Hydra and was inspired to live there by the documentary. I believe the documentary you are referring to is "Songs from the Life of Leonard Cohen," as he does visit Hydra, "Who by Fire" instrumental is playing, and he walks up the narrow outside stairs to his home with his fabulous back up singers Julie & Perla with him. Leonard shows them around his house and talks about writing "Bird on the Wire" there among other memories. Perla sits on the chair that is on the back of the "Songs from a Room" album. Then tells Leonard, he should sit there, not her...
It's a great documentary, I just grabbed the video to read/send to you what is on the back of the video so perhaps you can find it on line. The back of this cherished video says "originally broadcast by the BBC" copyright 1988 BBC, then in all caps/bold letters it says COLUMBIA. So it is 20 years old!!
I got this video at a record store in NY, probably 20 years ago--the store is now out of business, but it was the first time I heard "Dance me" as it was on the video, because at the time I found and bought this video, Leonard's "Various Positions album (which has "Dance me") had not yet been released in the US. I fell in love with that song...but could not buy that album here til many years later, as it was not sold here. I agree the filming in Hydra was beautiful, when Leonard, Perla & Julie got off the boat, they were greeted so warmly by LC's Hydra "family," i.e. neighbors etc. One of my favorite parts of the documentary is when they rehearse "Famous Blue Raincoat" (either in Hydra or Athens.(?) ) The documentary then shows the outdoor arena rehearsal in Athens I think, and then the concert. It's very well done, and is excerpts of concerts, songs, and interviews with Leonard, Jennifer Warnes and Judy Collins as well.
Believe documentary is out of print, but maybe you can find a used copy on line.
Would love to hear more about Suemerlyn's year and a half move to Hydra.
Hope this info helps you find the video.
regards,
Karen

I have two much-treasured copies of the video. I too love the scenes at rehearsal, and always wanted to be in that room! I also LOVE the concert version of Take This Waltz - Perla is especially wonderful. x

I became a dedicated fan when I was 16 and first heard "Famous Blue Raincoat". Leonard Cohen has been a part of my life ever since. It would be a dream come true to see Leonard live.

THANK you for the you tube clip - a lot of that was taken from the vid I saw, yes, over 20 years ago, which inspired me (I kid you not) to go live on Hydra with my little son, who was then 4 years old. He's a big lad of 21 now, but he remembers our time on Hydra. It was wonderful to see Hydra again on film - I have about 500 pix of the island, but no movies, don't own a vid camera.

And thank you to Karen and Rhona, re which video it was - yes, it was that one - there is a scene where Leonard is talking about writing Bird on the Wire and he gestures to the window of his house and says 'there used to be a wire out there.' To quote a bit more about how it was he stayed so long, he says - 'that's the way it was in those days.'

I lived on Hydra from 1990 - 1992, in various locations on the island. Hydriot - have you also lived there? Anyone else?
Had the most fantastic time there, met some extraordinary people, but not Leonard. He did not visit while I was there! I miss it a lot when I stop and think about it. I knew the Greek people who were very proud to be responsible for looking after his house in his absence, at that time.

Have posted also today on the Hydra thread. Would love to spend time there again, though July or August is probably the worst, most expensive, hottest and most commercial time. It's when all the rich Athenians come, who own second homes there, plus of course tourists, filling up the port cafes, who charge outrageous prices.

Well, it seems that a number of people from this site want to go, so maybe something will come of it, even tho it's a bad time of year. (April is wonderful.)

    Hi Velvet,

I had no problem getting seats, but as I said, ticket master has restricted the seats to the back of the bus. I was told this by ticketmaster. No good seats available before tomorrow. We can do a test if you want. If anyone has a seat closer then row Y can you let us know the row? And if that happens, lets see how close to the front that we can get?

I got ZZ... and even in the $95 range they weren't that much closer... I think it's kind of odd that Ticketmaster would give all the seats at the back to fans, when the presale was billed as our golden opportunity... weird...
