Hmmm. I've not taken the syllabic breakdown as being how it appears in writing, but rather how it's spoken. Smile in writing is certainly one syllable. In speaking, though, it becomes two. Smi-uhl. To speak it in one would be smahhl... hmmm... deep in the mountains, Southern accent. Interesting point, Violet. Either you're in compliance or Cate is [and I'm] out of compliance. Hmmm. Who's the lead Haiku judge here?
Even so... you can't just be adding words willy-nilly
