My son signed me up for Facebook a while back, I logged in and thought "what's all this about?" and didn't return for six months.
When I did I suddenly was back in touch with 50 old school friends and getting to know several aquaintances much more. I joined a group called "If I'm going to listen to anyone singing Hallelujah, it will be Leonard Cohen!!!" and suddenly found closet Leonard Cohen fans all over the world, four of whom I was able to get into the first round of concerts, thanks to the info from this board, and we've become much closer friends as a result.
I was originally a bit of a doubter about this new Facebook group, but hey, lets give it a try, I've just sent in my "application"
And if they really want to spend hours storing what I get up to on there, they really will be disappointed.

One thing with both with Facebook and Twitter. Remember to set your security settings. Initially I did not. A couple of months ago it was a slow time at work and we were all "googling" our names. Well....first two things that popped up were Twitter......with every "tweet" I had ever done out there for everyone to read; and Facebook....with photos and friends and postings and personal info. My personal info wasn't all that personal but I think some people tend to "bare all" and that might not be such a good idea. It's all fun, but within reason....

I have to agree with John here.
I was an avid Myspacer till I joined this forum ( to make sure i got tickets for the tour lol).... and then I found that this forum was more interesting than myspace, so that is sadly neglected by me these days.
I did love myspace for finding new music though. I tried Facebook for a while as some of my children live abroad and asked me to join but to be honest, I did not find it useful at all, more of a time consuming annoyance, and these days my time is precious to me, so I deactivated my account.
As Leonard said.... in the Future,' your private life will suddenly explode'............................. he was so right!
Each to his own
But I do prefer real human interaction any day.

Setting Facebook as private will not stop it appearing in google searches but if someone clicks the link they won't be able to view unless they are connected with that person. I've also googled myself on occasion & at present I I'm in 8 out of the top ten searches for my name! I clicked on the FB one & it just gave the info I have public, i.e my friends list & pages I'm a member off but no photos or personal information. All the link on google said was that I am on FB & to view my page & photos etc to click the link. The other searches are for music reviews & photos of gigs I've made public. I'm only too happy for people to view these & am delighted that they appear in google search as a friend & I were very bored recently & googled loads of friends but as a rule they didn't appear in top ten at all.
