and you want to travel blind...
Thank you for your songs, your poems,

Thank you for your "solitude of strength"

Dear Leonard,
Happily, for all concerned, I lost all nerve in my attempt to compose an original poem to celebrate your 70th birthday. I think these matters are best left to those gifted with the ability to touch someone's heart with a well placed word or to let someone cry by a deft turn of phrase. People such as yourself.
For me, all I can say is that I hope your Spirit is now Calm and that you are, indeed, Happy at Last.
Happy Birthday and thank you for the beauty you have shown us all.

Dear Leonard,
I hope you have a seriously happy day.
Birthday cuddles from a fellow shiverer.
Thanks for all the pleasure you have given so many of us with your songs and your writing. May you continue to be fully employed for many years to come,
Love, Margaret

Mr Cohen
Your music and your words have been the background to my life for many decades - I grew up and grew old with your peculiar brand of wisdom and humour in my soul. As you were always there when I needed you I can't say what I would've done or been without you - I'm contented with what I am and I thank you with inadequate words for that.
May you get for your 70th birthday whatever you need - contentment, peace and rest for your soul - you've earned at least that for the depth and perspective that you've brought to so many lives - and for the understanding of our own individual demons that each of us instinctively felt you expressed so well for us.
With love and hugs
Jo

Dear Leonard,
Thank you so much for all the great music and poetry. I've been a "fan" for a few years now, but just recently, this year, your music has begun to affect me in the deepest way. A good way, so no worries. I've just listened to Ten New Songs for the first time, and well, what can I say, besides masterpiece. I was listening to it at my father's house, and after a few songs, he walked into the room, and remarked: "So soulful." My father doesn't compliment many things, so it really meant something. Well, enough ramlbing. Anyway, I wish you a peaceful 70th birthday, and many, many more.

Thank you for the laughter, the tears of joy and the tranquility of hope that you have allowed us in time.
You will not be forgotten.
Be humble Mr. Cohen, look at all the souls who pay you hommage on your destiny.
Thank you for your honesty and your laughter and your sins.
Happy Birthday and may the world raise a glass to you ....
From a fellow Canadian to one who has given so much ...
Bonne fete Monsieur Cohen.
