First song to be performed?

Hi,
As you all know, Bird on the Wire used to be the opening song at most concerts, displaced latterly by Dance me to the End of Love. Both songs that for different reasons mean a lot to me.
I am sure they are important to Leonard but listening to him discuss with Mark Lawson his nervousness at the start of concerts I wonder if the purpose of opening with the same song at most concerts was to put him "in the right place".
If so what will be the first song or what should be the first song at the first concert.
If I was a successful gambler I would run a book, but I fear it would be another way to lose money....
Myself I'd love it to be Bird on the Wire

"The Guests" would be appropriate for the occasion and Leonard's demeanour.

I think it should be either Suzanne or Avalanche.
Suzanne because its the first song on his first album. Avalanche because its just a brilliant song and starts off Songs of Love & Hate.

I would also love to hear "Suzanne" first, for the reasons you've given, Undertow.

Oh, I love that, Kaczor... The Minute Prologue leading the way... to whatever the first song might be.

"I'm a fool but I think that I can heal it with this song"
Wrong and right, respectively.
Can't wait! Montreal has been my home for 5 years now, and I'm hoping Mr. Cohen will include his home town.
See you all there!

How about 'I Tried to Leave You'? He always used to start the encore of his latter concerts with this one, after he had tried to leave the stage, and I can see it appealing to his sense of humour.

Haha. You're right, Linmag. That would fit, too. Maybe he'll use that, again, for encores, this time around.

I can see him singing Back on Boogie Street, as it's a song he recorded since he last toured... but I like the suggestion of Minute Prologue. Incidentally, my uncle's the chaplain at an all boys' college in Melbourne, and I believe he once opened assembly by singing that song unaccompanied. Brave man! Though I believe it went down well.
Yes, Minute Prologue would fit the times, suit the occasion and please my eager ear, as well. And I'd like to be reassured that he still believes he can "heal it with this song".

I think you're right, Honor. Leonard isn't one for looking back. He's much more likely to open with new material, and Back on Boogie Street fits the bill perfectly.

Yep. Good points, both of you. It'll be interesting to see how it all ends up.

Hi,
sorry for my bad english - I'm an italian fan.
In my opinion , Leonard may start his concerts with Closing time.
I love "The future" album and I hope that Leonard will sings the incredibile "Be for real", with his beautiful voice.
Bye, Alessandro
