Hi everyone,

I live in Sunderland and do not know Manchester at all,i was wondering if someone can tell me if there are any hotels/bed breakfasts near the Apolo at a reasonable price, not just for me but for are cohenite friends from far away lands and maybe we can use it/them as a meet before or after the show.

If you book soon enough (ie:NOW) you can usually get a travelodge for £26 for a family room (sleeps 3). That's less than a tenner each so it's very good value. Even if it's not that cheap, travelodge are always the cheapest option and are decent for a 1 or 2 night stay.

Manchester Ancoats and Manchester Central are both walkign distance from teh Opera House. Central being only about 5 minutes away. Ancoats being about 10-15 minutes by foot.

I believe the Ibis on Portland Street is comfortable and reasonably priced.
I've stayed at the Aurora on Princess Street which was very nice and boutiquey... and allegedly part-owned by Cliff Richard but I didn't let that fact put me off.

One thing though.... DON'T GO TO THE APOLLO... Leonard's on at the OPERA HOUSE which is in fact very near to the two hotels I've mentioned.

ooops, did i say apolo,i would have looked silly waiting outside there when you are in the opera.

i travelled down to manchester a few weeks ago from south shields mate,stopped in the ibis hotel in portland street for 35 pound.
nice clean hotel with a bar in thats open late.

I've booked at the Walkabout Hotel - close to Opera and quite cheap. Does anyone know if there is overnight parking in Manchester?

I used to live in Manchester, so am not a great expert on its hotels (never needed them!), but am happy to recommend places to drink/ eat... The Briton's Protection (http://manchesterbars.wordpress.com/200 ... rotection/) is a great pub, especially if you like whisky - it's across the road from the Bridgewater Hall, not far from the Opera House. And for food, Dimitri's (http://www.dimitris.co.uk/) is fab (despite the slightly alarming website with flashing lights) - and of course, you can always head down the road to the Curry Mile...

(I don't work for the Manchester Tourist Board, honest, I just really like the place!)

We have also booked into the Travelodge (Tuesday night) although cheap rate not available any more. Paid £56 for non smoking family room. But that is fine for two of us. There still seem to be rooms available at the Manchester Travelodge although other med price hotels near venue are sold out (Leonard's entourage and crew maybe?) but there are only ever a few cheap advance rates for rooms like airline and rail seats, as the demand rise the rate does too).

I have booked a Travelodge just north of Macclesfield on the 18th June for £29 on the Wednesday (most days still available at this price), it is only 16 miles from Manchester and I plan to drive in on the night.

I'm staying at La Maison de la Chord Secret, the service is excellent and the food to die for (or is that to die from...!!!!)
