some of the lyrics in these songs were inspired by cohen's music/words. my stuff is kind of plainspoken i guess. i don't consider myself much of a poet although i like trying my hand in a little bit of songwriting. hope anyone who reads these enjoys them.
Song For Sailors:
When the sea is under the thunder,
in the storm its like those black foggy hills,
and some sailors learn to never surrender,
their taste for good fortune if the sea doesn't kill,
but the sea can be hard and as heavy as stone,
she can rock your poor ship and you can lose your way home.
home- could the sea be my home,
with the ships and the sailors and the lost souls who roam,
without aim, without claim and without a name,
will we seek our lost treasure regardless of fame,
are we vain traitors with no one to blame,
when we complain 'bout our ship and the holes in it's poor frame.
all you young sailors who hear this new song,
its for you, the true, the almost ready and almost strong,
who try to steer in this sea,
although the wind carries and you might not know where you'll be.
Gone Today:
Yesterday i felt the bite of time and where'd we go,
yesterday my mind had moved too slow,
and today our heart's beat dries,
came the dust- desire,
todays the day we'll set the world on fire,
tomorrow we'll pray to win the war, "god thank you for the thrill"
and we'll pray that god is love to a man that loves to kill,
oh yesterday,
my yesterdaze-y haze,
gone away,
gone today.
The Dust:
On your last fall the dust never settled and no one can ever be clean,
then you began to sweat like the devil when life came short of those dreams,
you can't backtrack or go 'round the same way we're all graveyard bound.
We return to dust in one color- its the same for a slave for a king,
nothing in this world lasts forever- its the only rule of the game,
after all things are said and done, the only guarantee is you'll have none.
The dust begins to clog your throat and you find it's hard to speak,
your words come like whispers now and you're breathing a secret to me,
theres no sense in getting worn, we both have been dying the second we were born.
