Anna Lindh

Post by lizzytysh »

To Marianne P. and all others from Sweden ~

I want to express my sorrow on the death of your foreign minister, Anna Lindh. I was shocked to hear of the manner in which she died. I don't know what to think of it, and understand that I'm not alone in that. The uncertainty of who and why prevails. From what I am reading and seeing, the one thing that is certain, however, is that your country, Europe, and the world have suffered a tremendous loss. She was a powerful presence and asset.

Dear Lizzytysh!

Thank you so very much for sharing our sorrow here in Sweden.Yes it's really terrible what has happend I thought that it never should happend again but it did.(Our primeminister Olof Palme was killed 17 years ago). Also a very popular person all over the world. Why is it so much violence in the world .........Anna Lindh thought that she could go out shopping with a friend and have a nice day coming back to her husband and their two children 10 and 12 years. Now they don't have any mother anymore....and sweden has lost a VERY good foreign minister who cared about freedome and democracy all over the world...I hope she is happy in heaven with God and that she can watch her children from above....

love, from Marianne and Sweden (a country in sorrow)

ps.It's not easy for me to express my feelings in english and to find the right words I hope you understand me.

Dear Marianne ~

I understand you perfectly and you expressed your sorrow very well. Yes, I had read and heard [during the coverage on Anna Lindh] about Olof Palme also being killed 17 years ago and whether or not the "lesson/s" should have been learned from that and the shock of "how could this have happened again?". It seems the equivalent of the assassination of our President/political leaders. In the coverage on Anna, there was discussion/controversy regarding Sweden's being an "open society" and whether continuing to be so was simply "too naive" and whether her death was politically motivated, "terror" based, or a thug who didn't know her from anyone else. They talked about her not having bodyguards/secret service accompanying her. It seemed the political/governmental version of "blaming the victim." With the repeated stabbing, it seems to me that the killer was intent on her being dead [for whatever reason]. It is terribly tragic. Her children are still so young, yet old enough to vividly remember her loss for the rest of their lives. Her husband is now alone. Your country and the world have lost a very needed crusader who truly cared about human rights. Even though her injuries did not occur on September 11, the fact that her death did seems symbolic, as well. Peace is eroding on all fronts, with seemingly no one unscathed.

It is difficult to know what to say.
It is more difficult to know how to say it.
We are all held in the palm of His hand, and now she is held in His heart, where she will be taken care of with a love we are yet to receive.
Marianne P, Anna is with old friends and family and only a heartbeat away from us.
I truly hope that you can keep your open society.
It is a beacon for Europe and a madman shouldn't be allowed to soil and spoil all that is good in your country.

I was also horrified to hear about the killing of Anna Lindh, and the Norwegian people and media are deeply engaged in the tragedy. I fear that the world has finally reached Scandinavia and that we have lost our "innocence" forever. Or maybe I should rather say - I've seen the future, baby: it is murder.

However, another incident made me even more sad. In a Swedish hospital for mentally disordered, the staff arranged a meeting to inform about what had happened to the foreign minister. Afterwards, one of the patients went straight away to the kindergarten nearby and stabbed a 5 year old girl, who died a few moments later. I saw her photo today, and I cried. Another little sparrow fallen.

Dear Elsie ~

What a horrifying, copycat version [perhaps so the perpetrator would also be talked about to others]? A graphic case of the impact of various forms of "media" on our most mentally/emotionally vulnerable [regardless of their age]. The immediacy of this one is chilling. The loss of innocence on many levels.
