Marianne Faithfull

What comments?

Do you mean my comments after the concerts, for instance about the Marianne Faithfull Festival in Bologna...or what do you mean?

There was a so-called "private concert", which has been recorded by the BBC, here!

swowen9.blogspot.com/2009/02/marianne-faithfull-at-st-lukes.htm

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Luke_Ol ... t_(church)

I was not there, that's a pity! It was a private concert but on the myspace Marianne Faithfull site it was announced that folks can win tickets! Ok, they would have give me access anyway as being her hugest fan on planet earth, but it was not possible for me that day to go to London. Besides, never been to London. But Liverpool 2 years ago (in order to see Marianne! ;-) ). Hope to go eventually to London - maybe next year or so...? BTW, Marianne will perform in London once more, on July 20th in the Royal Festival Hall.

Find attached a picture, which has been taken at that above-mentioned concert in the church. Hope you like it. Date: February 18th, 2009, so not even 1 month ago.

She's still very beautiful and it appears she does a wonderful concert. Very interesting shot of her, appearing reverent to her career and sharing her songs, very humble and deeply appreciative. A warm woman. I heard just an excerpt of her beautiful, low, full voice on NPR, as I was returning from lunch at work, but it was just to remind people of an upcoming segment.

Hi Abby,

If you want to hear the two sides of Marianne Faithful, buy "The Collection" (for the early years) and "Broken English" (a later classic). This is the equivalent of buying "Songs of Leonard Cohen" and "The Future".

Meanwhile, for the two extremes, check out these videos:

....today's NPR "Sunday Edition" had this feature (includes links to past NPR features too) in anticipation of the US release of Easy Come, Easy Go:

....this 2007 concert clip of As Tears Go By might be an interesting comparison to the '65 clip that John posted:

click `listen again` - thursday to hear.

Marianne Faithfull has collaborated with a host of star names on her new album Easy Come Easy Go, including Jarvis Cocker and Keith Richards. She discusses making music at 62, working with Keith Richards again, and what she makes of her contemporaries.

Easy Come Easy Go - 18 Songs For Music Lovers (on the label, Dramatico) is available on CD from 16 March.

Marianne plays the Royal Festival Hall in London on Monday 20 July.

I have the new album on order from Amazon and they are late sending it. Huge fan.

Faithfully, I was at the same concert as you in Liverpool. I've seen Marianne twice at the Philharmonic Hall.

Hey! I was there, too! In the Liverpool Phil!

On May 11, 2007

But...tell me! Were you at the stage front immediately after the gig?

Why I ask this? As I remember anybody asked her if there will be a gig in Manchester and she said: "No, we won't perform in Manchester!". Really guess it could have been - you!

Pretty curious to know this...let me know! :D

And why do you say "twice"? When were you there before to see Marianne?

Wanted also go again and see Alison Moyet there, who I never have seen live in concert so far

Alison was in Manchester in February - did you go and see her?

And as for Manchester...I will go and seee Morrissey in Paris on June 2nd, can't wait that day! You into Morrissey, too?

Hi.

No that wasn't me. I did see Marianne in Manchester once, many years ago when she was touring with the Kurt Weill and Berlin Cabaret material. Just marianne and a pianist and she was stunning. I think there is a DVD still available.

The other time Marianne was at The Phil was with the Vagabond Ways album. That album is still a very strong favourite of mine.

I missed Alison Moyet this time around but saw her a couple of years ago and she was great.

Yes, I am a fan of Morrissey but all his tickets sold out within minutes in Manchester so I won't be at the concerts. Love the new album though.

Morrissey

Post by faithfully »

Really? Morrissey still a big seller that way round?

Do you know about the argue with Bowie back in 1996 in Manchester? I guess that is legendary :(

Morrissey - vegetarian like me! :)

But a German paper lately writing about his new record (and tour) said he is gay. And he is a declared gay man. True this? Never heard this before but it doesn't actually surprise me. Anyway...the journalist wrote OPEN DECLARED GAY MAN. True this? you oughta know. Ok, me gay, too. I mean, so no problem for me, obviously, LOL

I really like this picture! Do you?

And here a short story: Some years ago, Morrissey and Sting performed the same day (evening) at the Montreux Jazz Festival, I guess it was in 2006. And I like both of them...so as I could not decide which concert I preferred, I stayed at home ;-)

Only been once to Montreux, in summer 2005 - guess for which concert... ;-) And Marianne comes back THIS summer to Montreux, that's great! :)

As for Marianne in the UK - I guess you know about her upcoming gig in London on July 20, don't you?

http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuse ... =475777094

I won't go there as I will go to see her on July 22nd in Stuttgart and elsewhere...but it would be nice to see Marianne one day in London (never been to London, only in Liverpool so far regarding the UK!).

ninispacechild: If you want to see Morrisey, don't believe the "sold out" bluff (you know the game these days). Just check the online agencies and venue itself, a few days before the concert.

faithfully: I like the fact that Morrisey is vegetarian (like me, you, and Leonard sometimes?) and this endeared me to "Meat is Murder". I'm not really a Morrisey fan, even though I like some of his songs (such as "Boy With the Thorn in His Side"). Johnny Rogan dragged me along to see him live once, but I wasn't particularly impressed. Re his sexuality, I thought he kept that private, though a number of people seem to assume he is gay.

Now back to Marianne. The only time I saw her sing was at a Brian Jones tribute show at the Marquee Club in July 1994 (along with
Donovan, The Pretty Things and the Blues Band). Marianne had presumably had a few drinks and had to be helped down from the stage after her set. There was a rush for autographs and she signed a few, but she said "that's all!"just as I got to the front. I said "please Marianne darling...it's my birthday! (which it was) and she obliged, so I gave her a big kiss on the cheek.

Love to all, John E

This is a very sweet story...about Marianne signing/you kissing her.

Hope to see you on a concert this summer!

I long to be in mid-April as there will be that Marianne Faithfull Festival in Bologna!

faithfully: Do please tell me how the Marianne festival goes. I'll try to get a good stalls seat to see her at The Royal Festival Hall, if there are any returns.

Henning: As you will note, there have so far been no references to any of the following in this thread:

Marianne's recording of "Tower of Song".

Marianne believing that "So Long Mariane" was written for her.

The Rolling Stones.

Mars bars!
