Everybody plays the game
But nobody rolls the same
Everybody loves the game
But nobody loves the same
Everything in life is a race, you just don't know when the finish line will come to greet you.
I ain't ready to leave, but I'm finding it very hard to stay.
We enter from the womb into the world crying
We learn to laugh before we learn of dying.
Smile and the world smiles with you
Cry and you cry all alone, yes you do
The things they write in the papers are only half-way true at most
And everything they ever do for the so-called "common good" comes at a scary cost
If this is love, then I don't want it
If this is truth, then please don't show it
Melt away the sadness & the sorrow
Like there's no tomorrow
He said, I don't understand you.
I said, well, really, how can you?
Just take one empty look.
I'm like an open book.

Re: Fragments of Poetry
Hi wittykat
I have read your poem a few times and attempted to respond but couldnt quiet find the words.
Anyway I wanted to reply .
I feel there is a lot of confusion ,sadness and yet great wisdom in it .
Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don't resist them - that only creates sorrow.

This is a great line . At first I thought ' live ' was a typo but probably notwittykat wrote:Everything in life is a race, you just don't know when the finish live will come to greet you.

Re: Fragments of Lyrics
Thank you so much for your kind words. I really hugely appreciate it.
I'll confess, these lines were just bits and pieces of lyrics I've been working on...I haven't found a place for all of them yet in my songs, so I thought I'd post them here.
As for that line, I quite like it myself, but your first reaction was correct, alas, it was a typo (I corrected it above):
"Everything in life is a race, you just don't know when the finish line will come to greet you."
Thank you again for taking the time to read - and even more so, comment! I hugely appreciate that.
