Yep. Charlie Musselwhite. Real old-timer. Nobody else on this forum knows who yer talkin' about, Kush. Just you 'n' me. Who needs lyrics, or even a backup band, when you can make a harmonica wail the way he does? I've seen him a couple times in clubs around New Orleans, and I've got several of his performances in various blues compilations. Christo Redemptor is a favorite.

Squidgy....there has been no more lonesome sounds formed or words uttered as when Charlie goes woaah woaah woaah. I have the 12 minute version of Christo Redemptor that came out in Tennessee Woman. Seen him a couple of times in NO. A real gentleman too.
Talks about when he got his start with Muddy Waters here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKA3tNoK8zM

Nice ones Bequia thanks. Was not familiar with their music although I am sure I knew of them. My holy trinity of harmonica is limited to Musselwhite, Junior Wells and Mickey Raphael (of Willie Nelson's band). Does Bob Dylan count as one? ...(The holy One of bad harmonica???)

... and to think John Hammond first met Bob playing harmonica at a Carolyn Hester session in September 1961 ... music from that seems to have been removed from youtube but here is Dylan as a session musician for Harry Belafonte a few months later ... Carolyn and Bob from back in the day ...

Interesting B. I doubt though John Hammond signed up His Bobness for his harmonica prowess. I stopped hearing the early Bob Dylan albums I think partly because of the long harmonica solos that did not seem to be going anywhere. Nevertheless I was impressed with his guitar prowess on Good as I Been to You.

Oh there are just not enough hours in the day, Kush and Bequia. (I don't believe I know you, Bequia. Glad to meet another Musselwhite fan :) I'll need to go back and really appreciate these links when there's more time. Thanks for 'em.
Kush, you always talk about N.O. as if you live there, or have lived there at some point in the past --? I remember you talking very intelligently awhile back about the politics (corruption) down in my (former) town...and also about the Atchafalaya basin, ecological realities, etc.

Hi Squidgy,

hmm maybe you are mistaking me for someone else....dont remember talking about NO politics. I can talk intelligently about NO food for sure (atleast the tasting of it, not the making). Never lived in NO but used to and still do visit there often for jazzfest, conferences and also simply for visiting. Love the food, music and people. Especially love the local music by bands and people that are never in the news and you can barely find their CDs unless you are in town.

cheers
and have a great christmas and holidays.

... how many holes in a harmonica and will the real Paul Butterfield please give us some blues? ... a better version (from the historic 1965 Newport festival) of the song Butterfield does to oblige that request ... Larry Adler, who comes up in one of the questions can be seen and heard here before and here after some politics that may explain why "#3" thought he was a PR guy ... like Tom Poston suggested anyone who plays harmonica has gotta know who Larry Adler is ...
