Hallelujah Cover

Post by romistrub »

My little sister made this -- I thought you guys would appreciate it. I don't see her very often (once a year or so) and I was absolutely floored by it. She's 14!

Happy New Years from Waterloo, by the way! :D

Outstanding. Makes Alexandra Burke sound a rank amateur.

When my daughter walked into the room while I was playing this, she asked if your sister has a contract. "Awesome. Damn impressive," she has just said.

But please please point out to your sister that the correct line is "how to shoot at someone who outdrew you" (many cover-artists missed the subtlety). Leonard never suggested you can actually hit someone who outdraws you. The image is that of someone firing off a hopeless futile final gesture.

She can hear the correct version of this verse on the Cohen Live album of 1994, or any time he has sung this song himself (available on You Tube).

That's simply amazing, I can't believe it!What a wonderful cover version!
She's got a very mature voice for fourteen and she is a very talented singer in my opinion, and a creative one. Congratulations! :D

Because her voice is so mature, I didn't believe the singer was fourteen, so I tracked her down on You Tube. Here she is in a school concert.

Her ending here is a bit over-stated for my taste, but it is still an extraordinary performance from a person so young, and I would be amazed if someone like Simon Cowell didn't snap her up pretty sharpish.

Isn't it encouraging that young people are singing Leonard's songs these days?

Totally phenomenal! I hope Leonard knows about this, and if he doesn't - then someone please tell him (Jarkko?).

Romistrub...WOW! Your 14-year old sister is amazing! What a voice! Very mature for a teenager. Love her upswing after the "Marble Arch" section....and also a little later in the song. Also love her "do ya's".....I know this is a bit of a controversy but personally I LOVE the "do ya"! With a little more of life experiences under her, she could become incredible!!!!!! Keep encouraging her...that voice should not be lost to early marriage, a job in a cubical...even college. If she does go to university, encourage her to always keep singing, and maturing in that lovely sound. There are many female singers today that she could easily rival in the future!

I'm really glad you guys liked it. :D

I don't see her ever giving it up, so long as it's her dream. She's got the will, the talent, the intelligence, and the support.

If Leonard finds out about this, it would make my ... well ... it would make me extremely happy for her to say the least. I know she's "trying to get noticed" (i.e. she has a youtube account... hehe), but I think this would be more meaningful than anything she could get on youtube.

Besides, I wouldn't want her to be thrust into the spotlight at such a young age -- she could handle it, for sure, I just think she'd miss out on a lot of good years. That, and I don't think she'd really be into Cowell's pulp-rock style. :P

The CD with that song on it was a Christmas present to me, by the way.
