how about a Krakow concert in August?
how about a Krakow concert in August?
It now appears LC will be in northern Europe in August. Krakow ain't far from Scandinavia and the Baltics, and he would have a guaranteed passel of fans for a Krakow concert during the "event"? Perhaps others have suggested this already; in any case surely the folks around LC must know about the Krakow event, and what could possibly be a better venue if LC will be in the neighborhood anyway (especially for those of us who just got clobbered financially due the the postponement of the earlier concerts and were planning to come to Krakow.

Re: how about a Krakow concert in August?
Bob, the Katowice concert near Krakow has been re-scheduled to October 4, and they cannot do more than one concert in this area (=Southern Poland).
Also, it would be logistically impossible to take the tour from Scandinavia to Poland and back, just for one concert. They try to plan the route so
that the equipment can be driven from one city to the next one during one night. Of course this is not always possible.

I insisted on an earlier thread when Israel was once mentioned as not possible because of similar logistical impediments of truck transporting etc., if there is a will, there is a way. Robert Kory told me at the Fairmont, he eventually received a short email form LC (apparently LC always sends short emails), "Let's do it". They obviously found a way - called modern modes of transportation.
I don't buy the "logistically impossible" argument here either for mounting concerts at least within reasonable distance close to Krakow. There is another more rigorous precedent why they should do it for LC's devoted and loyal fans assembling in Krakow.
In June, 2008, LC and troupe performed concerts crossing the Atlantic Ocean twice as follows:
Toronto, Canada - June 6, 7, 8
Dublin, Ireland - June 13, 14, 15
Manchester, UK -June 17, 18, 19, 20
Montreal, Canada - June 23, 24, 25
Glastonbury, UK - June 28
If AEG Europe is the primary booker, they are ignoring fans coming from places overseas such as North America and Australia. However, Kory, being LC's representative, could perhaps make a case for a deviation in schedule to accommodate the 300 devoted and loyal LC fans that will be convening in Krakow.
I am with Bob on this one.

Re: how about a Krakow concert in August?
Hi Arlene
Speaking as someone who was proved wrong on the logisitic/ economic impossibility of a concert in Israel, I agree with you totally on this one - in theory at least. However, we are wrestling with an unknown here: we do not know what concerts have already been booked in between Zagreb and the Krakow weekend. It seems quite likely that there would be insufficient time between booked dates for a short side trip for Krakow. Of course, the fact that a concert has been booked in October for the same geographical area may also be a factor, but that could be simply overcome by booking an extra, small concert for LC Event delegates only! Now don't anyone start to tell me that this would be much too expensive to do given the large tour entourage ... we'd be happy for a small breakaway group (just Leonard and a couple of friends say) to take a side trip, wouldn't we???

I did not suggest a concert in Krakow, per se.Mabeanie1 wrote:It seems quite likely that there would be insufficient time between booked dates for a short side trip for Krakow.
What I proposed was a concert, not necessarily in Poland, but within a reasonable time frame and distance near Krakow. As you know, Europe has a great system of trains and buses and rental cars. Have transport, will travel, but only if the concert date is reasonably close to the Krakow weekend. The timing is vital for the far flung overseas travelers. We are already experiencing a great disadvantage waiting for "the announcement". At this late date, plane seats from North America will be hard to come by. Prices will have risen. And the free air mile seats are probably long gone. So, please, AEG and Kory, give us a treat of something, eh, for our patience.I don't buy the "logistically impossible" argument here either for mounting concerts at least within reasonable distance close to Krakow
Look, I don't want to get into a technical hair splitting argument of words. All that Bob and I are saying is, give the 300 Krakow event fans a fair shot at going to another concert while we are there. Not necessarily in Krakow, but reasonably timed and accessible for traveling.

Yeah, at the end of the day, I am sure you lot would be more than happy with just Leonard and his guitar. How many trucks does it it take to carry that?
But then I insist on a good quality recording for the rest of us. We can call it "Leonard Cohen Unplugged" and put it in the Rare Recordings collection...

Re: how about a Krakow concert in August?
I have absolutely no intention of getting in to any sort of hair splitting argument, technical or otherwise - not my style at all. I was simply trying to inject a bit of fun in to the procedings. I rather liked the idea of a private concert for the Event myself! However, if all you want is another concert in Europe somewhere around the time of the Event then I'm sure you will get it. It's just a question of what you mean by reasonably timed and accessible. Isn't Scandinavia - or any other part of Europe for that matter - accessible?bridger15 wrote:Look, I don't want to get into a technical hair splitting argument of words. The Krakow Event runs from August 6-8. When are the Scandinavia dates? They are not listed on the official Forum thread or on the official LCFiles website. I have no plane booked because I am waiting for "the announcement". It is a tad difficult to book a plane when I don't know what cities are involved. And to be honest, if I get shut out of decent affordable flight arrangements, I may abandon Krakow altogether. I am not only losing my patience, I have completely lost my patience and my respect for the powers-that-be for treating us so shabbily.

If that ever came to be, I would estimate about 200 Youtube postings and perhaps 100 voice sticks recording the whole concert. Would that satisfy your requirements?

What else do I need?
a concert date subsequent to the Krakow weekend
-and-
a seated concert venue.
I noticed on Youtube, that many summer festivals in Europe are only standing concerts. Alas, I can't do that for four hours.

Re: how about a Krakow concert in August?
Well, I have heard it said that lately things have been a bit quiet on the forum, so I've been glad to help out!
The idea of Leonard just with a guitar and his voice coming to especially sing for us Krakow crazies (tho not only for us) certainly would be a wonderful gesture and might be a terrific experience for him also. Those of us who came or booked from far for the postponed European concerts really did take it on the financial chin. So, even if it's perhaps unrealistic or even impossible, I'm still hoping "for the miracle to come" and in the meantime hope and trust that all of us Cohen-heads will continue to be working for all our smiles.
