That sounds like a great idea. Thanks for offering to do this. You can count on two of us, Marsha (friscogrl) and me. Perhaps dinner before the concert?

I don't know yet where we will be staying in Gothenburg. Any suggestions?

Hi Arlene,

last time we were in Gothenburg, we stayed at a hotel, which we booked through the ferry company. (Stena Line) It was beautifully situated at the Harbour Front with a marvellous view, especially from their restaurant. I think it was Novotel, and it was not expensive. It is a bit far from the centre, though.
Last year Stena Line offered Scandic Hotel in the city to fair prices. When you book the ferry from Gothenburg to Frederikshavn to go to Odense you can book a package ...

Ah, Amrei, would that I could. But it is not feasible to go to the Odense concert. Not to worry though, a while back I drove through your beautiful country of Denmark and visited the wonderful city of Odense including the fantastic Hans Christian Andersen Museum. We stayed in B&B's the whole trip to avoid the pesky VAT tax. My friend was a better navigator, so I did most of the driving. We rented a gear shift car and that was an adventure in itself. I hadn't driven a gear shift car in many years. I was okay going forward, but kept forgetting the clutch in reverse. That grinding noise was chilling. After a while I only parked in places where I could pull forward.

Haha, Arlene ... so you should have seen me in Singapore. Trying to change gear all the time I put the car in parking or even worse R condition - no nice sounds either
Even worse, they drive in the wrong side there and all instruments have changed place, so sweating me ordered the children to be totally quiet and only shout LEFT!!! when I drove in the right side (They feared so much for their life, that they obeyed immediately ). And then I always turned on the window-washer, when I wanted to turn on the yellow blink. NIGHTMARE .... but after a few hours I learned

Pity that you won´t come to Denmark, I would have loved to meet you ...

And don´t book hotels in the Internet in Scandinavia. You get far better prices, when you call them and everybody speaks English.

Amrei, great stories about your adventures on the "wrong side". This isn't the thread for it, but one day I will have to tell you about almost getting killed by a double decker bus in London many years ago, when I was there "to see The Queen", or was it still "The King."

Courage, my husband & I will be in Gothenburg & Odense, & we are definitely interested in meetups; I think before the concerts would work best for us, if that works for everyone else. We don't know where anything is in those cities, so I thank you for your willingness & your efforts in booking a place.

We will also be in Stockholm, but I think lots of people will be in Krakow at that time (by the time we got around to thinking about Krakow, it was already booked up; we weren't sure if we could do both Krakow & concerts anyway - maybe I should ask about meetup in Stockholm in a different thread, though?)

Editing: We will go to Gothenburg on 8/10; if others are going to be around, maybe a meetup the day before the concert (8/11) would be nice. . .

Delighted you are organising something. Kath & myself are in Gothenburg for 4 nights from the Monday and would love to join up. Delighted i might get to meet Arlene who's posts I have always found helpful and entertaining.

Marsha (friscogrl) and I arrive in Gothenburg from Krakow on Tuesday, August 10 and will be staying for three nights. Perhaps we can touch base there even before the planned meet-up. I notice that Holydove will also arrive on the 10th.

We're looking forward to the meet up and hope more people can make it (hoping Jarkko might be at this, but Helsinki is just a couple of days before). I have not had time to do any homework, literally just booked flights and the hotel (Scandic crown).
