Here's a pearler...

Post by caz »

You're a fan of designer Martin Margiela. What do you think about him leaving his eponymous brand?

I'm a Margiela freak; I'm wearing it today. I can't really speak for Martin Margiela because I don't know him, but I can see that he sold his line to [Diesel's] Renzo Rossi so I think at that point that he was ready to become a different kind of brand, which is very similar, not that I'm comparing myself to Margiela, but you can only be too cool for school for so long. It just doesn't really pay. You know, it's like when Leonard Cohen wrote that really amazing song – oh, he's Canadian! You know, he asked me out for coffee when I was married and it's one of my biggest regrets ever.

Keep going…

Leonard's daughter, Lorca, and I had an ex-boyfriend in common. I was signed to Atlantic Records and then I started People's Revolution. … I was in a meeting and an employee of mine said, “Kelly, there's somebody here to see you.” Finally, I look and it's Leonard friggin' Cohen in my office and I get up and I go there. He's way older than me but smoking hot. He could be 100 and you'd still have sex with him. And he gets to the door and says, “Hi my name is Leonard,” and I was like, “Yeah, I totally know and I live for your poetry and your music” and he says, “Well, listen, I really love your music, would you like to go get a coffee some time?” I say, “You know I'm married” and he says, “Probably not such a good idea to go get a coffee then” … How faithful! Who would think I'd ever be that well-behaved?

The two people I regret not sleeping with [are] Billy Bob Thornton and Leonard Cohen. Come on, please. How's that for a Twitter sound bite!

For what it's worth, as I read the exchange I'm inclined to say that L was inviting her for coffee and maybe the offer of anything beyond that was her assumption. His assumption might well have been that since her response to the offer was to highlight her marital status, she felt even a coffee with "another man" might constitute disloyalty and he respected that.

Yeah, that's how I read it, too, of course LC just wanted to discuss music over coffee. I find this a nice example of how human mind tends to jump to weird conclusions in unusual situations like this. I wonder how I would react if L or other great idol of mine would ask me to have a cup of coffee with him? Probably not as cool and logical as I'd like to...
