Joey Carenza, the Tour Road Manager, posted only one photo on Flickr on June 23. One of the tags was "rehearsals".

An anectode about the world tour process. ...I was with a professor at the Boston-based Berklee School of Music this week-end, who detailed how excruciatingly difficult it was for a crew like Leonard's (60) to go from venue to venue ...a logistical nightmare ....instruments, lighting, props, communication, , food, accomodations, transportation, passports, rehersal time, even something as simple as drycleaning! .....there is often an arrangement that the artists have the identical furnishings throughout, in their accomodations at each venue ( and transported from each venue!!) so they don't feel like they are in a different place each night .... a distraction to be avoided......small example, a favorite well worn chair! This way there is almost a bubble which seamlessly moves the entourage from place to place. Robert Kory has told me that not only is there an even tighter bubble around Leonard but also the entire arrangements are based on "no compromise" philosophy.

Yikes, that sounds so so difficult.. a fav. chair on tour. Still, I know I love having something familiar with me whenever I travel . It gives me the feeling that I ' belong' even when not in familiar surrounds. So, look after Leonard and the crew people and bring on the concerts, whoo hoo.... count down on for Sligo... can't wait :D

Hi leonardmtl..

I was aware of that regarding Leonard, but it's interesting if it applies to other band/crew members. I will have to check that out. Most of them seem pretty adaptable to their surroundings. Concert one night...fly to the next city early in the day...free time to explore the new city or the surroundings...maybe get together for dinner/drinks/fun...next day sleep in...sound check...concert. Then off to the next city early in the morning. If they have the opportunity to be in one place for 3-4 days, then they tend to be laid back and simply enjoy the area. Lots of rest.

The plus is that occasionally one of their children or wives/significant others join them for a couple of weeks. I'm sure that makes it all the easier to accept the day-to-day tedium of travelling.

I'm sure the burden of the arrangements is placed on Joey Carenza! Awesome job. BTW...for anyone who may not yet know...Joey and Amy de Souza will be married this coming Saturday evening in LA!!!!! I wish them all the happiness possible to a beautiful couple!!! Many blessings!!

Hi Ladydi

From what I understand, this is part of "life on the road", when the tour is very long, with many personnel, and innumerable venues. The bubble may be uniquely Leonard, and free time may be always available, but it doesn't take away from the fact that an army has to be moved! Maybe we should call it a musical army?

Thanks for your interesting post, Leonard...mtl. Did your conversation include LC's sound engineer extraordinaire, Leanne Ungar who is an Associate Professor in the same department at Berklee?

When I posted Joey's photo at the top of this thread, I was struck by the ever present chair used by Javier Mas. I wonder how many miles/kilometers that chair has traveled.
