Leonard Cohen will no longer get to venture into the Hawaiian surf during the tail end of his world tour.
The Canadian folk poet has scrapped plans to perform in Honolulu on December 4, with his promoter on Wednesday citing "prohibitive and insurmountable logistical issues."
Instead, Cohen has added a date at Vancouver's Rogers Arena on December 2, and a pair of shows at the Paramount Theater in Oakland, Calif., on December 5 and 6, promoter AEG Live said.
The Hawaii show was announced on September 7, one of four marking the final leg of Cohen's tour. Unaffected by the cancellation are the concerts scheduled for Portland, Ore., on December 8, and Las Vegas on December 10 and 11. Ticket holders for Hawaii will get a full refund, and first shot at tickets for Vancouver and Oakland, AEG said.
Cohen, 76, emerged from a 15-year semi-retirement in May 2008 to crisscross large arenas around the world, and will have played more than 240 shows by the time the trek ends. He is currently touring Germany.
He plans to return to the studio next year to record his first album of new material since 2004's "Dear Heather." Given that he can take years to craft a single song, AEG has warned that Cohen will be off the road "for some time."

Well, good news for some I suppose. Alas, not for Scott and his LOTB group and not for those people who had shelled out a lot of money to fly to Honolulu for the show.mutti wrote:Thank you Leonard for coming back to Canada! to my HOMETOWN!!! Vancouver!

I'm glad you'll still be coming to Las Vegas, Wendy. Can you still get a refund or an exchange for a ticket to either of the two other venues? Granted, the two areas don't compare [each unique, but definitely not the same!], but if you could at least go to one of those, instead.
For a 'tour' [albeit divided into years] so long running, there have been very few glitches or disappointments such as this. Try not to lose trust altogether because it really is so RARE that anything so major like this has happened at such a juncture! For various reasons, though, shows in the entertainment world get cancelled/postponed all the time. Some had to miss Red Rocks [Greg from Australia] after having flown there and having their tickets already, too. Fortunately, it was able to go on a couple days later in the same location.
Your plane fare is HUGE, though, Wendy, I know that... and your investment can't be understated. Personally, I would be gutted, devastated. By NO means, could I absorb such a loss. Even with all that, though, please don't lose faith altogether, Wendy. The one thing you can trust is that they didn't do it to be fickle.

Re: Vancouver and Oakland replace Honolulu
I am sorry for the cancellation of the Honolulu show and feel bad for Scott and those who were organizing the Beach party
and also for Wendy and the others that paid for their airfare already and now have to make other arrangements. I was going to wait to write on here how excited I am about the Canadian show in Vancouver and am sorry if this upset anyone...I (and others) had a similar experience
when I flew to Denver to go to Red Rocks (Wet Rocks) and paid a lot for my airfare and car rental as it was a last minute decision.
The show was postponed due to bad weather...I ended up flying home the next day and missing the show. So I personally know how devastating it can be...it is out of our control and happens due to unforseen circumstances...
I have responded to this under the thread about the cancellation.
I responded with exuberance to this thread when I heard Leonard is coming back to Canada and only a 2 1/2 hour drive from where I live now although Vancouver is my hometown...I am very excited as I am sure those who live close to Oakland are as well.
I am sorry Wendy if my post upset you...that was not my intention in any way.
I do feel for you and all those who have made plans for Hawaii....
and that is separate from my joy and excitement that there is a Vancouver date.
A Canadian show is fantastic as its been awhile since the tour were there.
Unfortunately it is because Hawaii is cancelled and I am sorry about that for many reasons...

"prohibitive and insurmountable logistical issues"
Surely the logistics of such an event would have been sorted out before they made the concert announcement and started selling tickets
It would be interesting to know what sort of "logistical issues" the promoter means.

Re: Vancouver and Oakland replace Honolulu
It is wonderful news that Leonard will be in Vancouver again, but sad news for those in Honolulu, and those who arranged to fly there from far away.
I hope that those who were planning on Honolulu get the opportunity to attend one of the other concerts. The sense of being 'filled up' that one has after an LC concert, is unique, in my experience.
As the man says: 'Goodnight my darlings. I hope you're satisfied.'

How are the "eligible ticket holders" determined? I purchaced 3 tickets for the Hawaii show and though I am devistated with this news, I am willing to try my luck again. I would love to see Leonard in Vancouver, such an opportunity! But how do we access the early purchase window?

Re: Vancouver and Oakland replace Honolulu
It was my experience that AEG went out of their way to be accommodating to fans who had bought tickets to Leonard's show in Philadelphia last October - when there was a change in venue.* Actually, there was not just a venue change involved - but also a switch from Ticketmaster to LiveNation. AEG worked with LiveNation who were very helpful - ensuring that people were given a seat comparable what that which they had purchased at the original venue - if not better. Hopefully that will be what happens here.
I have never been to Hawaii (*sigh*) but I can vouch for Vancouver, BC. A wonderful city - view of the snow-capped peaks of the Rockie mountains as well as being located on the Pacific Ocean. Wonderful restaurants - terrific Chinatown
I'm sure lots got a good glimpse from watching the Olympics recently. And in Oakland - a beautiful venue - a lovely theatre!!
*I was totally thrilled about the switch from an arena to a wonderful theatre.

Re: Vancouver and Oakland replace Honolulu
I posted this information in the other "cancellation" thread, but it might be worth repeating here. Hope it helps.
Just a quick note for those with non-refundable tickets for the Honolulu concert - not sure if anyone can use this information, but all may not be lost. Most airlines are required under new regulations to allow you to use the ticket money for another ticket at a later date (usually up to a year from your ticket date). Check with your airline for specifics, but we have non-refundable tickets to Las Vegas on Southwest, and if, for some reason we couldn't use them in December, we'd be allowed one year from the date we purchased them to reuse them (depends on the airline whether we'd have to fly to Las Vegas or could credit them to a flight anywhere else, as well. In the case of Southwest, we could credit them to a flight anywhere within 12 months.)
Here's what I found from CNN - the link to the rest of the article appears here: http://www.cnn.com/TRAVEL/ADVISOR/ticket.refunds/
(CNN) -- If you get a deal on airfare, you can be fairly certain you're getting a "non-refundable" ticket. But that doesn't mean it will have no value if your travel plans change. Travelers are often confused by what "non-refundable" means when it comes to airline tickets. In general, it means that you won't get any money back if you cancel or change your flight. However, most airlines will allow flyers to apply the face value of the canceled ticket toward the purchase of a new ticket. In those cases, a penalty of $50 or $75 usually is charged.

All in all, this is very sad and disappointing. I feel for all the fans in Hawaii. I'd be crushed.
