Amy MacDonald: Born to Run like Bruce?

Is she the new Bruce Springsteen ? I like her accent too. Scotland is the flavor of the month. I ordered her live CD from Amazon - the studio album sounded more packaged and also the live CD has Born to Run on it.

Hallelujah again - this sounds terrific to my untrained ears.

well I have been listening to this CD all weekend. Outstanding rock album. She is a very fine songwriter if not quite the poet of the street Springsteen is. She has a similar sense of musicianship, rhythm and flow. A sense of symmetry between the flow of music and the words. And a great band although I would not put it on par with E Street. Yet. But best of all is The Voice.

Kush I haven't yet heard all your links but there will never be a new Bruce - the new boss is same as the old boss!
John Etherington, spare us:-)
On the theme of female Scottish singers, how about Maggie Bell of Stone the Crows:
Sunset Cowboy (too sad this one!):

haha - well it was an intentionally provocative first statement (but not completely inaccurate title) Diane. :)

Hi Kush,

Amy's cover of "Born to Run" replaces Bruce's frenetic impartation with a pensiveness. It's interesting,
and her good looks enhance the performance, though the song, to my ears, has become neutered
to no small extent.

On the contrary Steven, I thought her version brought out the starkness of the song more. Like Johnny Cash's Further Up on the Road (compared to Springsteen's). But these are all subjective reactions. I thought it was her voice more than anything else that to me enhances the performances. Well I liked her music so much I went ahead and ordered a live CD with orchestral versions - with the German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra below:

What Happiness Means to me

This is the Life

and a very stark and yes pensive live version of Dancing in the Dark with just her guitar

strip away the rock and the roll and it is a very pensive song.
