Bruce Springsteen's Birthday

Post by Steven »

Hi,

Happy birthday to the Boss.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NDOB1qswT4 Sometimes, what feels like a
last chance for hearts of stone isn't a last chance at all. :) Thanks to Bruce for putting
that feeling and a world of stories and experiences to music in the way he has and continues to do.

HB Boss, and hi Steven:-)! Thanks for the prompt - am just slipping The Rising into my cd player.

Checked his site and saw there are two upcoming events for New Yorkers:
Bruce Springsteen will perform at the annual Stand Up for Heroes benefit, a New York Comedy Festival benefit for the Bob Woodruff Foundation, on November 9 at the Beacon Theatre. The Max Weinberg Big Band and Jon Stewart, Ricky Gervais, and Jim Gaffigan will also appear. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster.

Bruce will also be a special guest performer at a benefit concert for the Robin Hood Foundation in honor of Sting's 60th birthday and the 25th anniversary of his solo career. Other guests include Lady Gaga, Stevie Wonder, Mary J. Blige, Herbie Hancock, Robert Downey Jr., Vince Gill, Will.i.am, Rufus Wainwright, Branford Marsalis, Billy Joel, and Chris Botti. Love the way Leonard and Bruce both have their birthdays in the same week. Would never forget either. Wish I was in New York for those gigs the one for Sting's birthday.

Yes Gwen, it is a popular week for birthdays. ;-)

Happy Birthday to you Bruce 8) I played The Promise CD last night to celebrate.
Bruce shares his day with no less than Julius Caesar and Ray Charles!

.....and Steven - Hearts Of Stone is a great song!
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to B4real ~ me

Hi,

Diane, happy to provide the prompt. :)

Musicmania, can't make it to those NY events either. Yes, two birthday boys of enormous singer-songwriting talent
in the same week. Wonder if they've ever considered covering at least a couple of each other's songs.

B4real, Hearts of Stone has had a place in my heart since first hearing it on an album by Southside Johnny
years back. I think I prefer Bruce's recording of his own song over Southside Johnny's cover of it.

Kush, thanks for posting a link to the Jon Stewart part of the Kennedy Center Springsteen Honors.

Kush and B4real, The Promise is enjoyable to me mostly as an artifact... with only the title song and
a few other songs sounding outstanding to me. Greater proportion of gems on the Tracks 4 disc compilation.
One of the gems from Tracks is Hearts of Stone.

What a marvellous and fitting tribute, Kush! We are indeed characters in an epic poem about losers.

Also, we are fans here of Bruce on piano so how about Incident on 57th Street from Live in Barcelona:

Diane,
Diane wrote:Also, we are fans here of Bruce on piano so how about Incident on 57th Street from Live in Barcelona:
You must have a sixth sense because at the moment I am compiling a collection of only piano, grande piano, electric piano and pump organ songs of Bruce's. So far I am up to 30.
I would welcome any suggestions as to what you all think are the best versions. This one of Incident on 57th street is definitely included. 8)

...and as well as the more popular recorded songs, I'm really liking this 1972/3 piano unofficial one:

When my internet is on go slow. I click on a video and then press pause until it fully loads. I can normally view ok then. Hope it works for you.

Yes Steven, and in my quest for piano songs the other day I came across this.

Bruce was speaking at the start of "Janey Don't You Lose Heart" at Atlantic City 2005. His last sentence made me laugh!

"I write two kinds of songs. I write songs filled with hope and then also songs of eternal damnation. I don't like to pussyfoot around the middle!"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaUEGoAdI-0

....and Diane I hope your net connection is OK now. Those links were great (I hadn't seen that particular one of You're Missing - great version) and I hope you were able to see Winter Song.
