Can anyone else detect a similarity in the melody of these two songs? (I believe that I have a live recording of Leoanrd singing Can't Help Falling in Love). Incidentally The Faith is definitely my favourite track from Dear Heather..it's brought a tear to my eye everytime I've played it. It has to be the final track on the album...I've started to stop the CD before Tenessee Waltz (despite the fact that it's a fine track). John E

Do you mean "Can't Help Falling in Love" as done by Elvis Presley, John?

I'll listen for it.

"The Faith" is actually based on "Un Canadien Errant" (compare to LC's version on Recent Songs").
That actually has been confirmed by Sony - they posted that information on Sony Polska official site!

Hi Lizzy and Tom

Lizzie - Yes, I am referring to the Elvis song (Blue Hawaii was where my musical journey began). Tom - Yes, I can see the similarity to Lost Canadian (pity The Faith didn't make it onto Recent Songs, instead!).
All good wishes, John E

I hope there are more outtakes from Recent Songs in the pipeline. I still think that was the best collection of musicians Leonard has ever had around him at one time.

I have no idea how "the faith" is based on "un canadien errant". I know french, so I know what that song is about, and I don't really see any similarities.

Who said it was an actual outtake from recent songs? It's not possible that he recenlty wrote this song and felt that his old band could do it justice? i don't really know.

the similarity is in the melody, not the words.

So now this is official. Interesting when you know that it passed from (Ah! this is the faith of folk music )"Par derrière chez ma tante" to "Un Canadien Errant" to "The Faith" - wonderful song, The Faith!! :D and when you know that the lyrics of Pdcmt are: On the back of my Aunt's house (more or less) there is a pretty forest where the nightingale sings day and night.

(and interesting fact that maybe is interesting just for a maniac about details like me : this is true that nightingales sing during the day also).
