When free beer is not enough: 22 Minutes gears up for Christmas comedy special
By Tara Bradbury, The Telegram
The hour-long 22 Minutes Christmas special, airing Tuesday (Dec. 13) on CBC, might be the funniest thing you watch this month — maybe even this year, according to its regular cast members.
Other skits include: Christmas with Leonard Cohen, complete with a black Christmas tree; the Queen giving her Christmas message as she gets progressively more drunk on Royal Ale; and animated shorts.
This year's 22 Minutes Christmas special airs on CBC, Tuesday at 8 ET/PT.

This sounds good! Thanks for letting us know - I like the show but never seem to remember that it's on.

CBC has a cable channel in the states ... I don't know why but that seems strange

This is not a show I much enjoy.
I am sure their parody is going to be something about how dark and depressing LC is.
How incredibly original! (NOT!!!)

I think a more interesting thing would be an explanation of why they have jokes about this famous Canadian Jew in their Xmas special.

Quite a stupid show but in the last few minutes they said
"Come celebrate the holidays with Leonard Cohen"
and they had a shot of a chicken in the oven cooking...
then this guy with a fedora on started singing
Like a Bird in the oven...the song went on and the guy was kneeling by the chicken roasting in the oven...
I didn't get the next few lines but maybe someone will have the you tube link.
It was better than some of the other parody's but...

That is interesting as on the television they only showed the Chicken in the Oven song...none of the other 3.
That wasn't too bad. I watched the whole hour so not sure how I missed it. Mary (Mollydog) did you see the tree and those songs?
The wonderful thing is Leonard is considered such a Canadian Treasure it was an honour for him to be included in this parody
even though the whole thing was a bit off in my opinion.
Cheers

Thank you, Roman for posting the Facebook link.
I think it is rather clever. But one has to be a "true believer" to get all the nuances.
I doubt the average Canadian viewer would understand all of the satirical innuendos.

The famous Blue Raincoat parody was the funniest part I think.

Hi Leslie,

They only showed the Chicken in the Oven song on TV. I watched it twice so I'm certain about that! (I watched the west coast feed later in the evening!).

The Famous Blue Raincoat bit wasn't that bad actually. Thanks for posting the link Goldin. The grim, depressing portrayal of LC is a bit annoying I agree (I just don't get it) but I agree with mutti - you might not like the skit generally, but the fact that they did it does illustrate how deeply LC is revered and honoured in Canada.

scocoh - I agree with you, but don't think that people are not necessarily clever enough to get LC, but that they simply don't invest any time or effort.
