What is playing?

Post by Dylan »

I always love reading what music people are listening to. I have been introduced to a lot of good music this way.

This morning, I've been listening to Roger Waters - Amused To Death. I haven't listened to this album in a while and am loving it. :)

Leonard Cohen's Dear Heather and Peter Cetera's new Christmas album, You Just Gotta Love Christmas. They came out around the same time.

"Dear Heather" on all cd-playing units, home and work; NPR on the radio ~ the latter brings me to a program I listened to last night. It's called "Piano Jazz" ~ with Marion McPartland[sp?]. Willie Nelson was her guest in this segment and, amongst other old standards, they did 'Stardust' [him singing]. He has at least one album that is old standards. It made me think of just how much these old songs are in the hearts of these older men. "Tennessee Waltz" is no exception. It also made me wish that Leonard would be a guest on that same show.

We've been listening to a lot of Link Wray and old Ike Turner stuff around the house lately! Also, I am really enjoying Bloodshot Bill - a local talent, a crazy one man band! :D

Madeleine Peyroux's CD "Careless Love". I'd never heard of her until I saw the link here last week. Her's is exactly the kind of music that I can easily fall in love with.

I had to search for the CD in Manchester though.

Now Dylan has mentioned 'Amused to Death' by Roger Waters it seems I will have to revisit it .....it's a long time since I had a listen.
Also need to dust off the other 2 cds.... 'Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking' and ' Radio Chaos'. I think my favourite is the hitchhiking..or is it?

I think The Pros and Cons of Hitchiking is my favourite Roger Waters solo studio album too, but In The Flesh Live is my favourite overall. I play that a lot and the DVD. Especially because it features PP Arnold, who I feel is much underated and deserves wider success.

I've been listening to Clare Teal this morning. Her second album, Orsino's Songs. Fabulous.

I went to see/hear her in concert on Saturday night, and she was wonderful.

Various positions and Dear Heather of course!

Other ones:
Nick Cave: Boatman's call, Nocturama, No more shall we part, The lyre of Orpheus/Abbatoir blues

Sarah McLachlan: Surfacing, Mirrorball (live) and Afterglow.

Why?
Because I've recently been to a concert by Sarah McLachlan here in Antwerp and I'm looking forward to the gig of Nick Cave in Brussels next week.

After that, I'm going to put on a lot of Beastie Boys, (I know, quite a different style...), since they're also coming to Belgium and I'll be there to see them!

Warm regards,
Maarten

I'm feeling like I want to listen to something soothing. Maybe some Philip Glass. :)
