Hoyt Axton

A very good tune from Hoyt Axton. Maybe the sort of song Leonard Cohen would have sung if he had pursued his dream as a country singer, especially with the female accompaniment?

Hi Tony,

I'm with you in liking the song. Yes, it sounds to me like the kind of song that Leonard Cohen would have sung
had he gone country. The song's sensibility and some of the vocal quality of Hoyt Axton on it make me feel this way.
At around 41 seconds and 1:23 into the song, there's a vocal/emotional edge that is reminiscent to me of
Leonard Cohen, especially in his younger years. Can also imagine Leonard infusing a country song with
female accompaniment in the style of this song, if he had traveled that highway.

a gorgeous song, Tony. Thanks, I was just looking for a song about highways. To think I had a very dim view of country music when I first joined this forum...how things have changed.

I'm glad you like it, Diane. It has a haunting quality about it, especially with the sparse instrumental accompaniment and the ethereal female voice.
