Julie Felix

Post by A.Sukitu »

Julie Felix performed in Hastings (south east coast England) last night. Wonderful as always. Julie performed Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye, plus Hallelujah. Julie is always very generous with her respect for Leonard. She relates how she lived on Idra and knew him, plus how she and Leonard appeared in early BBC tv shows and sang together (now available on Youtube).
"You let me sing, you lifted me up, you gave my soul a beam to travel on. ... You gave the injury a tongue to heal itself."
Leonard Cohen in Book of Mercy (1984) Ch. 19.

Great to hear that Julie is on good form, promoting Leonard, and no doubt keeping the Sixties spirit and her political ideals alive! I might have come to Hastings for this, if the weather was better. I could then have experienced the "Jack o' the Green" May parade, which I've always wanted to attend. I haven't seen Julie for a few years, but she's a long time friend of mine (we studied together in the late 80s). In 2007, I had the pleasure of reconnecting her with Leonard when I took her as my guest to Leonard's art exhibition in Manchester. She also came to see Anjani in the Pigalle Club, soon after. I hope to see another Julie gig soon, when she next plays near London.

John, good to read your posting. Julie plays The Stables in Hastings every year at this time - usually sold out, so book early! I think Julie has a project on the South Bank in September, but not involving her own specific choice of songs (ie not including Leonard's work).
She certainly keeps her passion for land, spirit and beauty around her.
