I am not sure what you are referring to Diane. I was talking of a football game on Nov. 5 - Eagles vs. New Orleans Saints. :)

oh OK, Kush! I'd thought there was another of those Cohen v Dylan v Springsteen polls afoot.

Hi Kush,

The song immediately reminded me of one I've heard many times on the radio, Aaron Tippin's recording
of "You've Got To Stand For Something." Never saw the video till finding the link for this thread.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_s-Qk07KxA.

A guy who did take a political stand is Meat Loaf. He endorsed a candidate for President. Won't say who.
Don't want to get this thread bumped down into the politics section. Will take a stand on a Meat Loaf song,
this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8JA9Qs2Mho. Have it on vinyl and listened to it often without
getting tired of it. Revisiting it here now feels good... a great rock classic.

Hi Cheshire gal, Steven and Diane,

Willie Nelson sort of downplays his own songs but in fact he first made his mark as a songwriter. His own songs are usually short, spare and never overtly intellectual. Almost Zen-like. Kris Kristofferson often says he has written some of the best songs ever created ...as well as "one of the funniest sons of bitches"
Steven - enjoyed both the links. Aaron Tippin's a good song but Willie's is more subtle.

Here is another Willie classic that I think most have heard before set to images of rusted cars in junkyards...

sometimes I am surprised he can stand at all on two feet after all these years never mind standing for something.... :)

Hi Kush,

Yes, on your comment on Willie Nelson's songwriting. Well said.

"Yesterday's Wine" is one of my favorite Willie Nelson songs.

After watching the Willie Nelson interview clip you linked to, this song came to mind:

Enjoyed the song Steven. Roll me up and smoke me when I die sounds very fitting for both Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg. That's an odd pairing but obviously they have common interests ;-)

here is a "christmas song" he recorded with Stephen Colbert on similar lines...

Glad you have shelter from the storm.

Hi Kush,

Never heard that song before. Doubt that many religious people will be singing it during the holiday
season. :)

This song got a lot of radio play in its day: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ejvcd-JeVCQ. It's not a Willie song,
but it includes two biblical names and a reference to an herb.

Hi Steven,

That's a good song. Sort of 70s country rock feel to it. Thanks. It reminded me of a country duo - Jim and Jesse or something like that, I can't remember.
