During her recent concert on 2nd May, at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Madeleine Peyroux performed two Leonard Cohen songs in her set.

The concert is being broadcast on BBC Radio 2 tonight Monday 6th May.

Below is a link to the Radio 2 iplayer webpage. After the broadcast tonight the concert should still be available for sometime via the iplayer.

I tried to hear it and could not.

I like Madeleine Peyroux a lot.

On her Careless Love album she covers Dance me to the end of Love, but I prefer the cover of a song of Zimmerman (what's his artist name... Like-a-rolling-stone-a-complete-unknown :) You gonna make me lonesome when you go., so fresh and nice ans who did not experienced this feelings of of of being eternelly grateful for what was lived that was a moment of grace, instead of being eternally sour that this not last foreverer, who? I ask you. Like if something is lasting foverer to begin with. But the most incredible covers on that CD is Between the Bars, a song of Elliot Smith. Foul of soul and nobody does it better than her.

Thanks to have bring this here! 8) I'll try again. :D

Tchocolati. Sorry to hear you could not access this link. I am not sure of your location. If you are resident outside of the UK it may not be available to you.

I agree with you. "Careless Love" has many great covers. When I purchased it in 2004 it was her first record for 8 years and it did not disappoint.
You are probably aware that her subsequent records also feature many covers as well as her own material. I think my favourite track, from the album "Half the Perfect World", is her version of the Tom Waits song "(Looking For) The Heart of Saturday Night".

Hope you have success in linking to the concert.

No success story to tell you. It seems that there is a technology non-correct thing in the process somewhere, site-too-
busy messages and the like.

But I nevertheless managed to listen to your favorite track on You Tube. Nice. Very nice. I imagined the original by Tom Waits while the silky cover by MP was going on, then I thought about Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald in duet : like chocolat and strawberry ice cream. Tom Waits being black coffee and Peyroux as wild blueberries warm under the end of summer sun.

Thanks to have directed me to this song, that I did not hear before and found so very pleasant.

Which leads me to thank you whith this song by the Cowboys Junkies, that you may like because there is something of the cover of HSN by MP in it - to my ears, anyway.

I am pleased you enjoyed the MP cover.

Your link was also very pleasant. Margo Timmins has a lovely voice.

The choice of the Cowboy Junkies is a co-incidence, for me, as a cover of The Velvet Underground's "Sweet Jane" is performed by them on the soundtrack to the film "Natural Born Killers". This was what reignited my interest in Leonard Cohen as he also had 3 songs on the soundtrack.
My father had the early Leonard records which I was familiar with but it was this soundtrack that brought me back.

I am probably going a bit off topic now but your link brought back good memories. Thanks.

Good! I'm happy that you like it! This song is so moody. It is a tribute to Elvis Presley (do I have to mention the last name?) but it sounds to have been written for a cat to me. But Ey! Elvis being so feline, it seems just quite right.

I may have just presumed that it was a tribute to Elvis Presley. The fact is that the exact song title is : Blue Moon Revisited (Song for Elvis).

Perhaps the cat was named Elvis.

After all.

I have seen a cat named Cohen and another one named Leonard on a SPCA site and another organism which is rescuing them. Two beautiful cats, the Cohen looks more like Adam, and the Leonard looks more like Leonard.

It rests that naming a cat Elvis is still a tribute to Elvis, so the song by extension...

So everything is still quite right.
