Bob Dylan in Toronto-- 12 Gates to the City

Surprisingly good cell phone video of Bob, Jim James and Jeff Tweedy doing the old gospel song "Twelve Gates to the City" in Toronto... at least until the owner of the cell phone tried for close-ups and exceeded the abilities of his equipment. But Bob's very engaged, singing well, and seems to actually be leading an audience singalong. I'm getting more tempted to try for a ticket in Irvine Aug. 3.

Yes, Bob's in good form (and voice) currently. Let's hope it stays that way until November when he arrives in Scotland!

Do you know if he's doing any songs off Tempest?

He is indeed Helen. Here's a link to the definite Bob fan site. All the set lists, reviews etc. stretching back years:

Trouble is, Bobness changes set lists very often and in many gigs he has done the opposite to what one thinks he might play but that's Bob! some how I can't see him being in "good" voice at gigs these days, fgs his voice went many yonks ago and yes, I still went again and again believing this night it will change but......

"Good" is a very relative description when it comes to Dylan these days. If I can understand the words, if he's getting the emotion and expression across (and he nearly always does) and he doesn't do too much of that weird rising inflection at the ends of lines thing, I'm willing to call it a good night with Bob. I did take a look at the setlists from the current tour, and they're about 15 songs. You're not going to get all the classics, he seems to be rotating them in, but there are a couple of Tempest songs that are nearly always there. It's a package tour, in effect, so I suppose it would be a big help if one were also a fan of some of the other bands touring with him.

One of the reasons I'm going to all three nights in Glasgow. ;-)

The main reason now for going to see his Bobness is because he is one of the few great legends remaining in the business and that is enough on its own.

It is why since 2008 we go to see LC, bizarre because since that day in 2008 the chap keeps on touring and we keep saying, "well it could be the last time" (we said that in the 90's as well !!!) and go to another gig. I think he has caught the Bobness bug regards touring....... ;-)

Well, I kind of hope so, having only been able to see him once live myself (stupid late fandom!) But these current Leonard Cohen shows aren't a Museum of Curiosities and Antiquities... people may go because they want to check a Musical Legend (TM) off their bucket list but they come away having had a musical experience of the very highest caliber. And I think his voice is actually getting stronger.

Agree with legends comment Vicomte. Think Leonard also "caught the bug", but looking at recent posts in different threads - this is it with LC. The job's done. Everyone is happy.

Saw him (LC) in 2008 when this renaissance all "kicked off".( 38 years after I first did) And every year since. The concert in the O2 in June - quite frankly- was sublime. The professionalism onstage knows no bounds.

But back to my first love. ;-) Bob. And specifically this video.

No chance of it happening, but I would love to see a professional copy of this. Bob's vocals are the best I've heard in a long time.
