Just read this. It's a really wonderful article.

The FT interview with Sharon Robinson
focuses on the song "Alexandra Leaving"
from Ten New Songs which is based on
C.P. Cavafy's poem "The God Abandons Antony"

2013 is the official "Cavafy year" in Greece as
Constantine P. Cavafy was born on April 29 1863
and passed away exactly 70 years later in 1933
on the day of his birthday.

Although I don't consider Cavafy the greatest Greek poet
I believe his "The God Abandons Antony" is the deepest poem
written in the Greek language.

"The Alexandria you are losing" can be a City, a Woman or Life itself.

This is indeed a very interesting article. Sharon Robinson deserves so much praise for she is a very talented artist. I am looking forward to the new album she is working on.

A friend of mine gave me the printed version of this article yesterday and it's probably the best article I ever read about the master's work in a newspaper. It's a really wonderfully written article that honors Sharon the way she deserves it. It's also very interesting to learn more about Alexandra Leaving and the songwriting process.
