As a huge dylan fan , and also a sinatra fan ,i'm not sure i'm feeling much enthusiam about the new Dylan album , about to be released, of reinterpretations of songs originally covered by Sinatra .
However a lot of reviews are coming out and all seem very positive .
An example : http://www.irishtimes.com/culture/music ... -1.2085449
Curious and heartened , and of course there's no way i won't buy the album

Not too sure about this one either, but the man himself thinks it's a good idea. :)

I listened to the whole album last night and I have to say ‘The Man’ did good! ... If this album were a painting of Sinatra it would be an impressionist painting seen through Dylan’s eyes, so if you’re expecting a crooning Sinatra album you’ll be disappointed. I wouldn’t even call it a cover of Sinatra songs as Dylan makes them his own in his usual laid back tormented way. The vocals are surprisingly clear (unusual for Dylan) and heartfelt. Someone used the phrase Exquisite melancholy recently and if I had to describe this album I couldn’t find a more fitting description. ‘Exquisite Melancholy’…

Thanks for sharing the interview Karren. Good stuff - I agree with most of what he says on it, especially about the pre 60s music of Irving Berlin and others.

I don't have all of Dylan's recent albums but I always check them out and two that I think are really terrific are the Bootleg series vol. 8 (Telltale signs) and vol. 10 (Another self Portrait). I might get Shadows in the Night at some point. Yes he can really sing when he wants to as he does here - Pretty Saro from Another Self Portrait

Interesting comment. We'll never know whether Sinatra would have been able to ' stand listening' to the whole album and/or what he would have thought!
