What should my first book be? :)

Debate on Leonard Cohen's poetry (and novels), both published and unpublished. Song lyrics may also be discussed here.

I have and like very much, Stranger Music. I see where you say "just poetry" and this is a selection of both, so maybe not what you are looking for but was my first choice.

Your welcome, and I am sure you won't be disappointed. I have not been a fan all that long either, so I must have been in the same place as you were.

I agree with Linda that Stranger Music is a good place to start, and has the advantage of being much easier to get hold of than some of the other collections. If you like the poems and the songs, you should try the novels too. They are both still in print, and well worth reading.

Out of the poetry books, I believe Stranger Music is the only one still in print, if you find anything else, let me know!
I'm on my second copy of Stranger, I love it.

You should be able to order it at most bookstores, if that doesn't work, I'm sure you can get it online. I got mine at Chapters. (hiss, boo, I know.)

Hahahahahah

Nice one Greg.

On topic, I honestly think Book of Longing is a great Cohen poetry book and very accessible for new guys.
