This is for those who come to Hydra in June.

The Dolphin schedule from Piraeus for weekdays in the beginnig of June is as follows: 8 - 8.30 - 10 - 12 - 14 - 14.30 - 17 - 18.30. Book your tickets on-line at http://www.forth-crs.gr/hellenicseaways ... .exe?PM=BB
The route is Piraeus - Hydra and it takes about 90 minutes. Online reservations with credit card.

Is it OK to buy tickets at the harbour? I worry about booking in advance and then the plane may be late or something and the tickets are no use

Personally I only ever use the dolphins when necessary.
There is always a ferry leaving Piraeus for Hydra in the morning, with one or two more during the day.
Check out the ferry timetables with the link below.
Don't forget this being Greece the ferry timetables can change at the last minute.
So it's best to check as late as possible before you leave home.
In June it's certainly not necessary to book ahead for either a dolphin or ferry.
BTW don't worry when the search box changes Hydra to Ydra.
If you do find yourself on the quayside enquiring about a ferry or dolphin, don't forget to pronounce Hydra as 'EE-dra'

The timetables for dolphins are pretty much fixed. but in any case it's not necessary to book in advance. you are bound to find either a ferry or a dolphin if you are at the port during daytime.

Just thort Y'd mention that some of us have to be at the airport to GET HOME! The first Dolphin out of Ydra is at 7:00am and gets into Athens at 8:50am. This will mean we have 2 hours from when we get off the ferry to get to the airport for our check-in time. Miss that 7:00am Dolphin though, and you'll have to wait until 10:35am. This will get you to Athens but will mean a HUGE extra plane Fare to pay to easyjet, and a bit of a wait to get onto the next available plane home.
I don't want to chuck a wet blanket over the anticipation for the holiday, but it always pays to have an exit strategy, and I haven't even mentioned GWB and his lack of one.
