I read her like a bible but needed so much more
from the title to the end plate there was nothing to explore
A passage etched on her face tortured by a pen
masked bloody pages ripped by hearts of men
Candles melt from both ends dripping penance on the floor
as the righteous veil faces to worship god’s chosen whore
Sheltered in a recess she bows her head to pray
then labours on bended knees to earn her holy pay
Every night she’ll be there at her station to the cross
as angels watch from above all souls beneath are lost
She offers up a sacred heart a host placed on her tongue
then lies across their alter to please god’s bless-ed son
A hallowed offering for a sacrament so divine
the reverent exalt her body with cheap consecrated wine
They donate to her poor box from shadow where they prey
anointed by her charity they sanctify their day
