LC & Pico Iyer

I’ve just now listened to my local ABC radio programme called “Conversations” and I recognised the featured guest, Pico Iyer, talking from his corona virus lockdown location. He was recalling his life and times plus his new book, “Autumn Light: Season of Fire and Farewells”. I remember he has written quite a few articles on LC – check out The LC Files.

Even though Pico didn’t mention it during the radio programme, an interview he did with LC at Mt Baldy was featured in a book he has previously written some years ago called "The Art of Stillness: Adventures in Going Nowhere."
Here’s the written intro (click on Open Preview) to it referring to LC – https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/219 ... -stillness

He also speaks most descriptively about that and Leonard here –

Also, he has contributed liner notes for several LC albums.

Thank you Bev, for providing these links -- I watched the speech by Iyer. Was anybody else offended when he recounted his visit to Mt. Baldy at which time Leonard Cohen asked him if he "needed a wife" (presumably because Leonard would have offered him one had he said "yes")? By the time Iyer gave this little speech (2015), the world had learned of the entrenched culture of sexual abuse of women at Mt. Baldy. Perhaps Iyer should reconsider telling that particular story in future, as it's really rather tasteless.

(Sorry -- I'm not trying to be negative, but in this day and age, making jokes about handing women out like candy to any man who wants one is not cool.)

Re: Pico Iyer, his best book "on LC" is, I think, this one from his famous TED Talk: https://www.amazon.com/Art-Stillness-Ad ... 1476784728

Talk is here: https://www.ted.com/talks/pico_iyer_the ... _stillness

He is using and quoting LC as the example thru the whole small book. Highly recommended.
