Posted: Mon Jun 14, 2021 2:34 pm
Amy Lamé presents a regular Sunday programme on BBC Radio 6. Usually the songs choices are based around a theme.
The latest show was based on the anniversary around 1920 when it was declared illegal to “post” children. Apparently there was at least one case during the early days of the U.S. Postal Service’s when a couple posted a 4 year old girl and she was delivered via train to her grandparents.Technically, there was no postal regulation against it.
The theme for the show was “You’ve got mail”.
Included was Leonard Cohen’s “The Letters” from Dear Heather.
Lamé introduces the track with some background around his letters to Marianne, auctioned in 2019, postmarked from Hydra, Montreal, New York, Tel Aviv and Havana, .
Link below. Just after 1 hour 4.30 mins for the introduction and song.
