Does anyone else out there on this forum remember hearing Buffy St Marie's version of "Magic is afoot, God is alive" on the great 1970's "album rock" FM station WNEW-New York? I can remember so well that the afternoon DJ, Scott Muni, used to play "Magic is afoot.." every so often, and I always stopped cold, mesmerized by it every time.
I did know at the time that the words were from Leonard Cohen, but I hadn't read "Beautiful Losers" at that time - a friend had a copy, but I was just a teenager and I couldn't read it. I found it too crude in some places and too mystical in other places.
Well, the joke was on me - many years later I know that life is too crude in parts and too mystical in other parts.
And so it goes...
Magic is afoot...a memory

During the mid 70's i use to go to the folk clubs in chicago when i was on break from college. One night i met a women at the folk club in the Dearborn Hotel who mentioned "magic is a foot, beautiful losers and Leonard Cohen. Prior to that i never had listened to LC. My first album was Love and Hate. And my first reaction wasn't pretty. But in short order i was hooked and have been ever sense.
