Entertainment One Income Fund Announces DVD Distribution Agreement with National Film Board of Canada
Thursday April 27, 10:05 am ET

TORONTO, April 27 /CNW/ - Entertainment One Income Fund (TSX: EOF.UN - News), a major distributor of home entertainment products, today announced that its Koch Entertainment Canada division has signed a DVD distribution agreement with the National Film Board of Canada (NFB).

"The agreement gives us exclusive rights to search through NFB's back film catalogue accumulated over more than 60 years and containing more than 11,000 films and other audiovisual works to identify appropriate video for distribution in today's entertainment marketplace," said Darren Throop, President and Chief Executive Officer of Entertainment One.

"We have committed to distributing a minimum of 25 hours of content each year over a three-year period. The first several releases will include The Leonard Cohen Collection, The Last Round - Chuvalo vs. Ali - 40th Anniversary Collection, Glenn Gould - On and Off the Record, Battle of Vimy Ridge, Whale Mission, Leonard Maltin Animated Favourites, The Best of the Best - Animation, and a seven-DVD box set of Normal Mclaren's works.

"This deal very much fits in with our objective of raising the proportion of our total sales that involves products on which Entertainment One has exclusive distribution rights or owns the content. Such sales now make up close to half of Entertainment One's total sales," Mr. Throop added.

We have to remember that NFB has no concert footage at all except Harry Rasky's film. Let's hope it will be one of the first items to be selected to the collection.

As far I heard, NFB put all its production which deals with Cohen on the DVD Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Leonard Cohen (movie), and In Short: Leonard Cohen, which included all shorts with LC's words or music. I hope this "Collection" doesn't refer to this. If they own Hary Rasky's movie, that would be *magnificent*. (Isn't Rasky produced by CBC television?)

This could mean that Rasky actually owns the movie. I remember he announced DVD release with Field Commander Cohen (or Kelley Lynch did so), but it never occured. Also, the film is only available from Rasky, on beta VHS mastertapes, which also would mean he is the owner.

"Ladies and Gentlemen" with the short films and Book of the Dead have both been released on DVD.

"Moving Picture" (one-hour dance film with Leonard as a guest) is not listed on the page although I'm sure it was produced by NFB - a nice item, too.

"I'm a Hotel" would be another great Canadian item, but wasn't it owned by CityTV...

Yes.. But I think I Am A Hotel was produced by Blue Video, temporary company owned by Leonard and Moses Znaimer. Well, if he owns City TV (I think he does), he could help to see it released.

By the way, I checked the Austin City Limits DVD releases
at http://www.livefromaustintx.com
they have now 17 DVDs by 17 artists, but no LC... (It has been up
to copyright issues = Sony).

Hopefully the DVD's will sell well the NFB needs a surge of money. Currently they are only funding documentaries and animations, it has been hard times at the NFB.

Here's the good job for the new managament...

It would be great to see Leonard's 1988 and 1993 show in this series. I think they're goal is to release best moments of ACL shows, nevertheless if these were recorded with one or fifteen cameras. If there's a reasonable doubt that many (younger) fans would be unimpressed to see Leonard's old show shot with two static TV cameras, such style wouldn't be out of place in this series of historical value (although there are some new gems, like Lucinda Williams' show). but maybe Sony wishes to see Leonard's fancy DVD full of videos and impressive show shot with steadycam. Who knows.
