In Spain last week was de 70th anniversary of Lorca´s Death. A Great poet and the most important poet for Leonard. A suggestion:Next event could be in Granada o Cadaqués? Lorca lived in Granada but he was in Cadaques, a villlage near of Gerona(spain) with Dali. His relationship with Dali is a mystery yet.

The next Event is in Edmonton, Canada, in July 2008.
The location of the 2010 Event is open - wherever it will be,
we need a local committee to organize it!

We could compromise Fljotsdale and have it on the Isle of Man!

A question about the next event: Why is in Edmonton? Is it an important place in Leonard´s life or writtings? I´ve read nothing about this location on his poems or songs.

That is why Edmonton. It is the most important thing. If you want to do it, it can be where you are.

The story or inspiration behind "Sisters of Mercy" took place in Edmonton, on a rainy night. The song was writen there in just one night, which is not his usual way.

The Events are in turns in North America and Europe:
1998 UK - 2000 Montreal - 2002 Hydra Greece - 2004 New York - 2006 Berlin - 2008 Edmonton - 2010 back somewhere in Europe.

Just like Partisan said, the most important thing is that we have an active group willing to invest time and energy in organizing the whole Event.

Kim has an excellent team in Edmonton. Probably the 2008 Event will be the biggest so far, with many locals who have participated in his Cohen nights in September every year.

Some ideas also exist for the European Event in 2010. It is self-evident that we cannot have a close local connection with Leonard's life if we go to a new country every time!

From a 1988 interview by Alan Twigg :

Twigg : There’s one song of yours, ‘Sisters of Mercy’, that I particularly like. The lyrics are so enigmatic that for years I thought it must be about either nuns or prostitutes. I was surprised to learn how autobiographical the song is…

Cohen : I actually wrote that song in Edmonton. There were two young women on the street. I met them in a doorway. There was a snowstorm. They mentioned they had no place to stay. I told them they could stay in my room. They went right to sleep. It was a beautiful night. The North Saskatchewan River was iced over. I just sat there in an armchair, watching them sleeping. I wrote the song in one night. That’s very unusual for me. When they woke up I sang the song for them.

"First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin" It's done.

"So on battlefields from here to Barcelona" (The Traitor) To do.

The "embrujo" (magic) of Granada is in Lorca, and this relation comes directly to Cohen.

Every Cohen's fan must peregrinate at least once to Granada.

Yes, i´m with for your smile. The event in 2010 would be in Barcelona, because if for a song is enough...Barcelona is a great and international city, as you know. And Leonard loves Barcelona!
